The deeper we moved into this wing of the mansion, the more the atmosphere shifted - quieter, warmer, perfumed with spices and something floral that didn’t originate from the servants’ cheap soaps.
The walls here were lined with tapestries instead of portraits, scenes of wolves and stars and moonlit forests woven in shimmering silk threads. My gaze lingered on them, not out of curiosity, but because it was easier than imagining what awaited me. Mira stopped before a tall double door carved from dark wood, each half etched with the crest of the Knight Moon Pack: a wolf with its head raised toward a crescent moon. She knocked twice, sharp and brief.
