The hunters were circling, boots crunching too close, their noses twitching. Every instinct screamed: we could not be found. Then it hit me—the solution that had kept me alive for years. Mud. Earth. I try to think clearly as I go through passageway after passageway until I find an opening. The sun is coming up. It's the first light I've seen in over a day.
