Wind tore past his ears and the rush felt incredible, so he let out a few long howls. The engine noise drew attention wherever he went. When he passed a high-rise, he spotted faint silhouettes behind the glass. Even in the apocalypse, some people clung to life. Humanity showed the same stubborn grit as locusts. Extreme cold worked like pesticide, yet a few always survived and adapted. Cyrus touched the pistol in his pocket and felt steady again. Anyone still alive in this city could turn into a threat. In the Frostfall, trusting human nature counted as a deadly mistake.

All that matters now is surviving. I stay between the roof with our only entrance and the ground below it, swiftly ending the lives of any Soulless who try to slip past. Their black blood taints the snow and lifeless bodies begin to pile around me. Cries of pain and the tangy scent of fresh blood drift to my position, and a sinking feeling enters my gut.

The Blood-Gold fire was still humming beneath my skin, keeping my blood hot and my vision clear. Around me, the survivors were screaming. The shock of the real world was too much for many of them. They had lived in the warmth of the simulation or the controlled environments of the estates for so long that the raw, unfiltered North was a nightmare. Children huddled together, their lips turning blue within seconds. Men and women who had once been powerful Alphas were now shivering in the snow, their bodies forgotten how to regulate their own heat without the help of a computer. "Rowan!" I shouted, my voice cutting through the wind like a blade.

Not even room temperature can improve the taste of it. These days I have two ways of keeping myself fed. Depending on where I am in the world, I will sometimes survive on the local animals I find near my home or I survive on cold blood. To get that cold blood I buy what I need from an underground network of mortals and immortals that steal from blood banks around the world and ship it to those of my kind in need. I wiped my mouth with the napkin Rose left behind and then changed into jeans and a soft blue sweater. When I opened the basement door into the kitchen I found Chad and Rose washing their dinner dishes.

“So… Do you guys actually drink blood? Like, for real?” She shrugged, casual as if we were talking about coffee orders. “Some do. Just like some humans hurt people. There’s good and bad in everything. You’d be surprised how many of us live quietly, slipping through the world unnoticed. The scary stories? They’re either warnings… or cover-ups.” I swallowed hard, my throat dry as sandpaper. “What about me?” My voice barely scraped out. “Kelvin… bit me. What happens now? Am I going to… die?”

Just before I succumb to the darkness that pulls me, I hear it… “White hair. A gene of the moonblood line. Cursed. Prophecies surround them.” It’s a whisper in a foreign language. But somehow, I understand it. “The rest of them were killed. She’s the last of their kind, she must be killed.” And I succumb to the blackness. I don’t struggle, no, I go willingly. But just before my mind blanks, I make up my mind. When I wake up, I will leave Ashbane pack. I will run, and I will hide. I will survive.

My mind went into a downward spiral, thinking up ways to survive a crazy, zombie apocalypse. 1.) Machetes instead of guns, that way I won't run out of ammo. 2.) Find reliable allies. Let's see, Rick has Daryl in The Walking Dead and Roberta has Addy in Z-Nation. Ok, so I guess werewolf friends would come in handy if there's ever an outbreak - but can a werewolf become a zombie? SHIT! I don't think I'd survive a zombie-werewolf apocalypse.

He could feel a great pain throughout his body. Not long after that, Arnold finally stopped moving and his heartbeat was no longer could be felt. Arnold was dead. “No way…” Cedric could feel a great pain and a little of trauma in his mind. Mafia world was really a place full of dangers and misery. He suffered a great loss because of this war. Only the alpha’s blood could actually kill me. I am currently wondering in the forest looking for a meal. See, the pack did give us blood from their blood bank, but I wasn't a fan of it. Having fresh blood was always better. I couldn't get fresh human blood since I was too far away from human civilization. So, animal blood would have had to suffice for now. The blood from the blood bank was frozen so, it had to be rewarmed for us to drink. Just like how soggy warmed up food in a microwave tasted so, too did the blood when it was warmed. But at least they had blood for us right? Beggars can't be choosers.
