That same twisted image was everywhere, on the walls, etched into doors, even hanging on long, crimson banners: a monstrous wolf head, its fur slicked back like tendrils, snakes bursting out of its skull in place of ears. The eyes glowed red, alive somehow, and long jagged fangs curved over a snarling mouth.
“What kind of lunatic chooses this as a symbol?” I whispered to myself as I passed one.
It was disturbing, unnatural. It made my skin crawl. There was something ancient and cursed in it, something that didn’t just say we’re powerful, it screamed we’re watching you.
