[Ben’s POV] The giant, crazy-ass, punching machine was finally himself this morning. Sitting in bed, staring out of the window, Ben couldn’t hold back a sigh and strolled into the bedroom. ‘Your plan worked,’ he said quietly. ‘How long was I out?’ ‘Not long.’ Ben moved closer and sat on the end of bed. ‘How long?’ Insisted the deep voice. ‘Two days.’ Ben observed his best friend closely as silence fell between them once more. ‘You look the pinkest of health,’ he joked.

Ash laughed and walked away, “Ten seconds guys then I start without you.” “Ben what’s wrong?” He looked at me like he was still in a daze, “How does he do that?” “What?” “Make his voice echo in my head? I’ve never heard that before.” “You’ll get used to it.” I walked with him to the back door then stopped, “See you later.” “Aren’t you coming to watch?” Ben sounded eager. “No.” That answer pulled his face into a disappointed look. “I really don’t want to watch you get hurt.”

Yet, it was like he was waiting for me to break down and either talk to him about what happened with Rob or start crying. “Haven,” Ben said, and I blinked, realizing that I had zoned out while watching his form during the exercise, and he had stopped moving. “What’s next?” My mouth opened and closed a couple of times, and I was unable to think clearly. Instead, I picked up my tablet and scrolled through it, relieved we were done. “That’s good. Let’s get you rubbed out, and you’ll be good to go.” I said distractedly and heard a choking noise from my left.

Merigold giggles. I laugh but get back to eating. I want cake too. I look around while I eat as it has been a while since I have been here. I don’t usually have a reason to visit the ol'e ladies houses unless they are having a get together they have invited me to. Still I think it has been almost a year since I have been to a house event. I see my dad and Gena talking with the brothers and ol’e ladies like they are old friends and I love it. “Are you okay?” Shit. I almost forgot. To her it's only been a day and half since we've seen each other. I nod, smiling to ease her worry. “Yeah. Everything is great.” A groan sounds behind me as Ben lifts his large body from the ground. “Warn me next time you try to shove my body through the floor,” he says to Tessa. He towers over her, which is not a hard thing to do being 6’5. Ben is one of our warriors, a gamma through and through.

Hillary I shifted the gear to park and then turned off the ignition. “How did I do?” I turn to Ben. “Great. You just need to be confident enough to drive faster so we don’t get to work an hour late,” Ben says to me, unbuckling his seatbelt. “An hour?!” I exclaim, checking my watch. Hyperbole. We are less than thirty minutes late for his first meeting. “Yikes! I’m sorry,” I apologize. I’m really enjoying driving a lot lately. Who knew I was going to love it so much?

Pushing him directly usually meant watching him retreat behind an even thicker wall of silence. Opening a chat with Oliver, Austin typed out a quick message: Hey. Ben just sprinted out of the lab. He’s pretty out of it and locked down tight. Can you try to track him down or drop by his place later? He might actually talk to you instead of burying it.

Not Enough, my internal voice taunts me. Ben walks up next to me in his own workout gear and hands me a water bottle. “Did you get it all out?” I didn’t realize he stayed. He’s sweaty too, so at least I didn’t keep him from his workout today by being stuck babysitting me, again. “For now, but that’s only because I can’t feel my arms.” I roll my eyes at him. “You’ve been at it for three hours, I would hope so. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen you move like that. You are getting stronger and faster. Apparently your anger is your secret weapon.” He winks at me, but the amusement doesn’t last long.

He hesitated for a moment before adding, "For saving my butt." A smile tugged at Hunter’s lips—a rare, genuine moment of warmth breaking through his usually composed demeanor.
