San Diego had me feeling differently. It was like I became Alex Gray the moment I drove into the city. My personality changed over the following two weeks as I followed Jordan Reed. "Which means if you'd tried to look him up before the game you'd have found the same wall I did. That's why none of us had heard of him." I handed the phone back. "It's strange," I said. "That's all. Just strange." "Right." Tanner pocketed the phone. He stretched his arms above his head and leaned back. "On a completely different note, I'm actually hyped about Wood Work this year." I looked at him. "Don't give me that face," he said. "A week in the woods, no classes, no press, just rugby and fresh air. I look forward to it every year."

“It hasn’t even been a week since Sandy’s death, so don’t worry, I won’t touch you.” Pearl was about to rummage for clothes, but Tanner’s voice sounded. “There’s no need for you to look for them now. I’ve thrown them away.” She froze on the bed. “What do you mean?” “I mean every single word that I just said, literally.” Tanner raised his head, and his eyes looked dimmed and enigmatic. “I went to your house today.” Pearl’s face turned pale, and her lips trembled slightly. Tanner got up, walked toward her, and showed her the camera. “If I were to show these photos to Mr. and Mrs. Hannigan, please enlighten me about what they would think of you.”

I found my eyes completely drawing to him and noticed his legs were so long that he looked uncomfortably huge in that chair. "Okay everyone-" Mrs. Lionel starts but her words drone out in my ears. Kade places his bag on the desk, looking like he didn't want to be here. I watch his fingers fumble with the zipper of the bag and noticed it was the only part of his hand that wasn't tatted. He wasn't obsessive about working out, but he made sure to get some exercise every day, usually a run. Clearly, that wasn't enough for the young man who was eyeing him up and down.
