MAD I read the action fantasy, mystery romance book Alessia gave me. I was only on chapter 3, and I was already hooked. As I read the heroine’s description, my mind went back to Tara. She was beautiful and seemed enigmatic, and I felt like she kept herself wrapped in a lot of secrets. I asked Alessia about her, but she told me nothing. Instead, she insisted that I should make an effort to get to know Tara. My meeting with Gabe Linden left me even more confused with a lot of unanswered questions.

Tara asked in a voice just above a whisper as she gently closed the book and carefully set it on the antique side table next to her winged back chair. “I’m a little big for that fainting sofa. I thought I’d try a bed instead,” he said while rubbing and flexing his neck for emphasis. “What were you reading?” he nodded his head toward the book she’d just set down. “I was seeing if I could find anything in this book about the shadow people,” she replied hesitantly.

Why not?” Tara sighed and sat up. “With everything that’s happened… I just don’t feel like going.”

Throughout dinner, Tara’s piercing green gaze had rarely left him. Tara was a petite, scrawny old woman with a shock of brilliant blue hair framing her face. She was dressed in a floaty green kaftan that matched her eyes. Although there were lines on her olive face–around her eyes, around her mouth–she did not look a hundred and fifty years old. More like mid-forties in human years. It wasn’t very surprising. Shifters and magical folk aged a lot slower than humans.
