An ordinary wolf can feel the edges of it, sense the mood of the pack the way you sense a change in temperature. A wolf witch can read it like a map.

' I dispel the pressure from his anger and penetrate deeper into his consciousness. Images of Luca’s own transformation from midnight flickers through his brain like a movie. I see how he and the two other wolves run through the woods. I feel his playful joy as they race around and play. I see how they stop, sniffing at an animal trail and put in a unanimous howl. When a strange wolf’s howl answers them, the three wolves set off at high speed towards the source, a gray wolf, much larger than a real wolf, but with the same features.

This time I couldn’t stifle my gasp, nor my surprise as both Alec and Kade’s wolves popped onto the screen. The video was only a few seconds long, but full of snarling and screaming. Kade’s wolf exploded from the forest in a rush of broken branches and snapping teeth, barreling into the first wolf he found. Alec followed after, sinking his teeth into the first who dare fight against him. The video faded out after one of the wolves was tossed in its direction, turning into nothing more than endless static.

Finally, a couple of preteens gave them the stink eye until they gave someone else a turn. CeCe met a cute boy and got flirted with. River scared him off, not because he is human, but because she is only fourteen. She sulked for a bit but forgave him because River can do no wrong in her biased eyes. He also divulged the teenaged Romeo had asked three other girls for their numbers and was a senior in high school. Wolves have their ways of finding out all. Especially Papa wolves.
