Waking Up to Five Years Later
I saw Alicia about to speak again, so I cut in first.
"If your friends press you, just tell them we've already signed the divorce papers. The certificate will be in our hands in thirty days anyway."
Her expression shifted, complicated and unreadable. In the end, she said nothing more.
But as I turned to leave, I overheard her answering a call.
"What do you mean? The black box… it's finally been decoded? I'm coming right now!"
Her heels struck the pavement in a hurried rhythm as she rushed off, while my own steps faltered to a halt.
