Without looking to Owen for confirmation, I say, “We do. Please, explain.” She opens her bag and removes a few tattered paperbacks. The spines are unreadable, they’ve been cracked in so many places. One is missing a cover. All of them have a forest of neon tabs jutting out from their sides. I hear Hannah’s audible gasp of delight and admiration. I’m surprised she doesn’t ask for the brand, style, and inventory number of the tabs. “Our pack is so obsessed with the story of our origins, that we ignore the story of our ending.” She opens one of the books and it lays flat, pages perilously close to falling out. There’s a woodcut illustration of Fenrir devouring Odin.

We’d been outmaneuvered on a battlefield we’d chosen, and it stung. The next morning, a package arrived for me. Heavy, flat. Inside was a book: The Odyssey, a beautiful, leather-bound vintage edition. A notecard was tucked inside. Gwen – A hero’s journey is defined by the monsters faced, but also by the home they return to. Sometimes, the most radical act is not to fight the new monster, but to tend the hearth the old ones tried to extinguish. The Tidewater Trail is a far more interesting story. I’ve instructed our foundation to proceed with the endowment. Build it well. – Eleanor Vance

A mirage distorts the view beyond the window shields, and it’s impossible to tell where the asphalt ends and the ocean begins. I don't come into this room enough, but something had led me here tonight and I was compelled to remain here and watch the mountains from here, what the night held. My parents were returning from their trip by ship. They had left with some of their guards to meet with the Japanese merchants and pirates who had settled along one of the seven seas enclosing Eldrador kingdom.

Studying the man's movement, she found every movement of the man was purposeful and graceful, like a predator stalking its prey. “My lord,” Beta Idris called the man's attention towards the appearance of the woman. Alpha Odysseus turned around and his gaze landed on the woman who was fidgeting with the hem of her clothes while looking down at her feet, of course, no one could bear to look at him or even summon the courage to do so. “Look up,” Alpha's Odysseus' strong features were set in a hard expression, his brow furrowed in concentration as he studied her. But beneath the cold expression, he seemed to recognize her.

His eyes were direct, intense, and surprisingly serious. "A passing grade in Lit," he said, holding her gaze. "And maybe you to stop looking at me like I'm a poisonous snake." Tamine felt a flash of anger—he was making her the problem. She snatched the pen from his hand. "Fine. Then stop being such a lazy idiot and focus! We have to find an outside reference for your analysis of Odysseus." She pulled out a printout about ancient Greek culture. "Look, we can use the concept of nostos—the idea of an epic journey home. It's about being lost and then finding your way back to where you belong."

Odessa was elated as she scanned the contents of the book, the ancient diagrams and foreign language. She sat down cross-legged on the dusty floor and began reading. The more she read, it felt like the words were coming to life, transporting her mind into ancient times. She felt compelled to read, to continue flipping through the pages. Odessa's eyes widened as shock registered on her face. The back cover of the book depicted a striking image of a wolf, its fur glowing with an otherworldly light. In the background, a starry sky shimmered with a full moon. As she turned the page, Odessa felt a chill run down her spine, and a sense of wonder filled her.

As she settled into her worn armchair, a steaming mug of chamomile tea in hand, she pulled out her notebook, its pages filled with her scribbled notes and interpretations of "The Odyssey." The words she had written in the library, fueled by the quiet inspiration of the space, now seemed to jump off the page, brimming with newfound meaning. She reread them, her mind buzzing with connections and insights, the intricate tapestry of Odysseus's journey weaving itself into her own life.

I ask as I carefully lift the cover. “No. All I was told was to give it to you. I think it’s about mythology. Or maybe it’s that one Greek novel. The famous one with Homer and the dog that remembered him years later.” “The Odyssey.” “Yeah, that one. I read it in school, though I don’t remember it being that long.” She takes another drink of coffee. “I thought maybe you were Greek or something.” “Nope. I’ve never even been to Greece.” “That’s weird then.” She shrugs, finishes her coffee, and uses the bathroom before she takes off. “See ya later,” she says.

Too happy to oblige, and I swiftly return to the Duke's office, standing in front of the bookshelf, trying to decide what book would show-off my 21st Century education. 18 My eyes fall on Homer's "The Odyssey." Perfect! I snatch the leather-bound book and return to the bedroom. Once inside, Bryce is sitting on a wooden seat with an empty stool beside him. He is sitting close to one of the burning candles on a floor stand. "What book had you chosen?" "'The Odyssey,' my lord," I tell him, trying to keep my voice neutral and bored. I do not want to give away my eagerness to prove my higher education. "Very well. Sit, and you may begin," Bryce states while studying me curiously. I can
