She sobbed it out. "She's gone for graduate school. Overseas. She's not coming back." Every ounce of strength went out of him. He stumbled up the stairs and went for the master suite. On the nightstand I'd slept next to for seven years — There were the divorce papers. Squared up. Waiting. Mrs. Linley said his hands shook like branches in the wind as he picked them up. He stared at the delicate signature on the line meant for the spouse. Nora Pemberton.

> "I'm the cold, detached wife. I'm the emotionally unavailable physician who spent more time in the trauma bays than in her own home. I was entirely too focused on my own career advancement to notice a lonely, neglected husband." Thelma looked utterly crushed. The absolute silence that followed was all the confirmation I required. I nodded slowly, the pieces of the puzzle locking into perfect alignment. The script practically wrote itself. The highly successful, unyielding female doctor; the busy, neglectful mother; the tragic, cast-aside husband who simply fell into the arms of a warm, supportive young woman. You could almost hear the whispers spreading through the manicured lawns of River

The three hundred page book and makeup are still inside, but her chocolates and money is not. “Well, at least they did not take my book.” Natalia says grumpily and walks back home, - Natalia let’s herself into the mansion and walks walks straight up into room she shares with Noah. “I don’t know, we could hangout Thursday evening. I’d be free.” She hears Noah saying from inside. Apparently, he is not aware of the fact that that she had come in minutes ago. “My wife, uh. I don’t know, don’t want her breathing down my neck or anything.” Natalia heard her husband sigh as she gets closer.

A woman whose hobby was reading books could only shake her head because she was reminded of the agreement she once made with her husband, even if only verbally. "I have to prepare my heart. Do not depend on that playboy man. After all, we are two strangers forced to become husband and wife." The girl's voice weakened, and Abby unconsciously burst into tears, realizing the stupidity she had done. ***

I bit my tongue and forced a smile that looked uglier than a crying face and continued on my way with the trove of bootlickers following me. “Mrs Gates, please help me. My husband really needs this contract from the Gates group. I guarantee that my husband is honest and will supply the items satisfactorily. Please put in a good word for us, our lives depend on it.” A desperate voice suddenly said, same time I felt a soft hand grab my arm. The tearful voice seemed to coming from a long tunnel, snapping me out of my daze. I looked up to see a young woman of my age, her eyes filled with desperation and love for her man.

I didn’t expect something like this, not so soon, not when everything around me still felt like it was falling apart. If I had heard this a few days ago, I would have said no immediately without even thinking about it. Back then, I thought my life was set. I thought I was about to marry the love of my life. I thought I had a best friend who would stand by me no matter what, and a mother who truly cared. But I was wrong about all of it. They all abandoned me. Every single one of them. They pushed me aside the moment things went south and threw me away like I was nothing.

“You cannot fool me. I saw the test results.” I rolled my eyes at his words. He was bold enough to come right in front of me and claim rights to a child when he was the one who abandoned me months ago? How sweet. And why on earth would he even need my child when his darling wife was capable of bearing his heirs? As I looked into his desperate eyes, I chose to toy with him the same way he did to me. “Why would you care about a child from me? Tell me, is your sweet little wife barren?” I jabbed. “By the way, where is she? Last time I remembered, you never let her out of your sight.”

Jordan growled, his Alpha aura flaring up so hot the people in the front row actually recoiled. The woman didn't back down. She walked right into the center of the hall, tears streaming down her face. "Don't act like you don't know me. But if you want me to say it so everyone could hear, I'm your wife, Jordan! I’m the woman you abandoned three years ago!” “What?” Jordan looked like he was ready to commit murder. “How could you be out here getting married to another woman? What about me? What about our three young children? Are you just gonna let them starve while you play house with this... this rogue?"

But the wife, looking both ashamed and relieved, stepped forward. “I came here,” she said, her voice trembling, “not to defend myself, but to confess. I was lonely. Abby was absent. The mine stole him from me, and the walls of our marriage turned into a prison. Jake… Jake was only a symptom, not the disease. I’m sorry.” Abby’s fists trembled against his thighs. His pride wanted to explode, to call her names, to throw her out. But another part of him — the part that had grown weary of lies and deceit — sagged like a weary soldier.

She probed looking fierce suddenly. "I don't understand Abby , you are my wife and…." I was going to say when she had suddenly cut me short. "Your wife????" She giggled as more tears rolled down her eyes. "Last time I checked Jack, you abandoned me in the hospital after collapsing on our wedding day. You disliked me the moment you heard that I won't be Able to give birth as a normal lady should!!" She bellowed as she sobbed softly. "You abandoned my child and I , not knowing what tomorrow holds Jack!" She asserted as she felt shattered within her soul.
