They moved fiercely, like wolves working together to corner their prey. Quinn ducked behind a stack of broken barrels just as two enforcers pass by, their voices low but clear enough to make her heart seize. “But what does finding this healer has to do with the blood moon curse?” one of them muttered. The other sneered. “The Blood Moon’s rise stirred the curse again. The Alpha believes the healer’s bloodline is connected to it. She is the key to—” A low growl cut off the man’s words. Quinn didn’t dare listen further. Suddenly, a howl erupted from nearby, sharp and deafening.

“What happened?” He pulls back slightly, his hands cupping my face. His eyes, those deep pools reflecting a storm of emotions, meet mine. “It’s been tough. Some of the Alphas didn’t take too kindly to us telling them their packs were cursed. Others were completely obliterated already; heir Alphas, Lunas and Betas were taken out. But it’s over now, Camellia. The curse, that fucking witch’s influence, we’ve ended it.” I nod, understanding the weight of his words. The curse, the battles, the pain—it’s more than just physical wounds. It’s a tearing at the very fabric of their world, their lives.

“Even if she was real, the last True Alpha was a good leader. I don’t see the problem.” One of the council members straightened in his chair, eyes narrowing. “I don’t think you know the full story of the True Alpha.” Aiden’s gaze snapped to him, irritation sharpening his features. “What full story?” He turned back to his father, who inhaled deeply before speaking. “She’s an abomination.” Alpha Alaric’s voice was grim, thick with old fear. “A curse that needed to be erased.
