I ask as he opens the door and we enter the chamber. I look around the room, taking in the beautiful decorations and soft lights that fill up the space. In one corner, there is a work area for mages, where the aroma of various herbs and ingredients is coming from. It mingles with the sweet smell of burning candles and the musty scent of old books. And in another corner is a king-size bed with its velvety drapes. “You mentioned you want a room with lots of books, a place that is close to the magical department?” Gideon whispers as he places his arms around my shoulders. “Well, I have this room prepared with that in mind.”

“HA! Close. That is putting the term in a relationship lightly” “Relationship?!” “Yes…” Alluvium hissed, his mind went to how happy Nuri is, and how he could not wait to destroy everything she holds dear; including her little human toy. “Well, that makes sense” “What does?” “Rumor has it; that a new Element Archdragon has been created” “Impossible… where did you hear this?” “I was at the local pub here a few days back and heard some of the men saying that they have seen a magnificent black dragon soaring the skies and control lightening and some say it was the human mage from the village that has become an archdragon now”

The smell of leather and aged paper filled the air, and the golden light of chandeliers created a comforting ambiance. I ran my fingers along the spines of the books, each one holding stories of the pack's history, traditions, and beliefs. My gaze eventually settled on a worn leather-bound book titled "The Chronicles of Luna." Curiosity overcame me, and I pulled it off the shelf. The book's pages were yellowed with time, and the intricate calligraphy captivated me. Lost in the world of ancient legends, I was startled when Rico's voice broke through my reverie. "It's time for dinner, Royal."

I resolved that as soon as I got back to my room, I was going to scream into a pillow for at least ten minutes until this pent-up anxiety was entirely out of my system. I didn’t bother to ask him where he had gotten it, but based on the look of curiosity on the Grand Magi’s face, I realize I should have asked him more questions. Rakasha squints at the title as the delicate elf brings it forward, her expression widening with awe as it comes into focus for her. “The last time I saw this book, it was in the archives with our other treasures,” the magi raises her scaled eyebrows in surprise. “And yet somehow it ended up here.” The old crone pinches her wrinkled lips as she glares at me, studying my expression. “Have you learned how to shadow walk, Aka’naha?”

I’ve been pacing like a caged tiger and he’s been very patiently trying to ignore me while attempting to read. "Actually, let’s go to the gardens," she said. I didn't ask questions. I just followed her out of the library. As we passed the kitchens and the dining hall, the rich, savory smell of roasting meat and fresh herbs wafted up to me. My stomach let out a treacherous, loud rumble. Goddess, I am hungry. Heat crept into my face. “I hate how the two of you notice everything.” Magnus took another sip of his tea. “You’ll hate it even more after today’s lesson.” Before I could ask what he meant, the large doors opened once again and Valerian walked inside. The old Archmage carried three enormous books stacked so high in his arms that I could barely see his face behind them. Dust floated into the air with every step he took. He reached the table and dropped all three books directly in front of me. The loud thud echoed through the dining hall.

"They have, ever since she was born." Cassandra set the little serpent among the piles of gold coins. The creature sagged in defeat and exhaustion after lying before that terrible fire. "There it is," Vasilisa's voice came from behind a mountain of walnut-sized raw rubies. It wasn't hard to find the book. It was placed on a golden stand in between two golden Sirin statues. The grimoire turned out to be the largest book Cassandra had ever seen, with pages made of parchment illuminated with tracery, and it was open to a page thickly covered with elegant, intricate writing.

I tip-toe and take it out. I look around and finally settle down on a short ladder, which I hadn’t noticed before and open the book. I skim through and to my dismay, find nothing. “Not a single mention,” I mutter under my breath. I shouldn’t have expected to find much. I take a deep breath and begin to peruse again. All the books have little to no mention of mages. Not a lot of things have been written. ‘As if they will keep a record of a monster,’ Ruelle sneers suddenly, irked. I let out a heavy sigh.
