Selene hated how much she wanted to ask why. Instead, she focused on the sharp pain in her ribs, the burn in her muscles. She welcomed it. Pain meant she was alive. Lucian finally broke the silence. “You were reckless.” Selene scoffed. “And you’re unbearable. I guess we both have our faults.” Lucian turned, golden eyes glinting. “Recklessness will get you killed.” Selene met his gaze, unflinching. “So will hesitation.” For a moment, neither of them spoke. Then, to her surprise, Lucian smiled.

A not-so-subtle reminder that I royally fucked up, and now it’s time to suffer the consequences for going against the Goddesses divine will. I’m fading fast, the pain becoming too unbearable to manage, my surroundings going dim as I tumble into a chasm of chaos, hurt, and misery. ’ Bastian seems to be in shock, and he can’t speak though his mouth is opening and closing like a fish out of water. ‘I mean not to harm your human, Bane.’ ‘I don’t give a fuck what you say; I don’t trust either of you. Endless tedium. Endless tedium is the bane of my endless existence, even as I watch people walking past the café window. They walk by with smiles on their faces, a pep in their step and a laugh on their lips and I hate them for it. Occasionally someone walks past the window with a deep-set scowl imprinted on their face and for a brief second I let a smile touch my lips. These are the people I relate to most.
