“I’m sorry, ma’am, but no one is allowed to see the Beta after sundown. Direct orders.” The words hit me like cold water. “Since when?” “Since… a while now.” His voice dropped, almost apologetic. “No exceptions. Not even the Alpha himself goes in after dark unless it's life or death.” My stomach twisted. Life-or-death. That was exactly what this felt like. “Please,” I said, stepping closer. “It’s urgent. I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t.” He shifted his weight, uncomfortable. “I’m sorry, Miss Esme. I really can’t. He made it clear—no one.”

And I was done pretending that it was enough. I would follow through with Helen’s plan. I had already made that decision, There was no turning back. I was still lost in my thoughts when the door suddenly burst open, the sound echoing sharply through the room. My beta rushed in, his movements quick, his expression tense. “Alpha Xavier!” he called. I didn’t respond immediately. His voice barely registered at first as my mind struggled to pull itself away from its own storm. It wasn’t until he spoke again, stepping closer and lowering his head slightly, that I finally turned toward him.

I snapped. But she did not move. She stood there, her hands clasped in front of her apron, gaze still lowered but not retreating. "I understand your pain, Luna..." she said, her tone low and almost trembling. "I know you don't want to see me. But… I truly wish you will be fine one day. And perhaps… one day, you will see Alpha Sylion differently. He isn't a bad man." My eyes turned cold. "I said leave!"

How does he expect him to live without his other half? Adrian balls up the letter and screams as he throws it. Fresh tears rolled down his already tear-stained face. Spit connects his lips as he screams and slams his fist through anything and everything he can reach. “I won't accept this!” Adrian said, his voice cracking. He pushes himself up and runs out of his room onto the balcony. The young Beta leaps over the edge and shifts before taking off into the woods. It only took the Beta ten minutes before he entered Alaric's father's territory. He didn't bother with the front gate; he went in through the unmarked area on the side, just like Alaric always did when sneaking in to see him.

“Unidentified wolf, assumed to be hostile.” “Protect the Alpha at all costs!” Between the phrases they’re yelling at each other, and the smell of them, I realize this is a large group of maybe thirty Betas. I don’t know them, don’t recognize the expansive house Blaze has brought us to. I don’t know what Alpha they’re all protecting. Blaze tries so hard not to fall, slowly lowering to the ground before her legs give out fully. “Alert, alert! The wolf is preparing to lunge!”

The only thing she can do is to get better for Kayla, for her son, for herself, and for whatever lay ahead. The ride back to his pack was heavy with silence. Alpha Damien stared out the window, lost in thought. The image of Stephanie lying on the hospital bed replayed in his mind, bringing with it a flood of memories and regrets. He couldn't shake the guilt gnawing at him. His past actions had hurt her deeply, and seeing her in such a vulnerable state had forced him to confront the reality of his behavior.

His transformation from the Heartless Beta to a devoted father and mate is something not many would have predicted. And as for me, I’ve got my own reasons to fight, my own promises to keep. The war might rage on, and the dangers might never cease, but it’s the thought of Chloe Jane, of a future where we can finally be together without the shadow of fear, that keeps me going. If that means becoming as overly emotional as The Heartless Beta, then so be it.
