Dahlia shrieked, her figure melting into the brightness. And then all went black.

“What is it?” Her eyes darted ahead. Her voice was barely a whisper. “We’re not alone.” And then we saw it… shadows moving at the far end of the corridor, shapes peeling out of the darkness, blocking the way. Dahlia stepped from the shadows. Shock tore through me like a blade. Her red cloak swept the stone floor, her hair gleaming dark under the torchlight. Her lips curved in a smile, though her eyes were colder than ice. “Well,” she said softly, her gaze sliding over each of us in turn. “Out for a midnight stroll?”

He disappeared into the shadows as silently as he'd emerged, leaving me alone with city lights and the lingering scent of his cologne. I pressed my forehead against the cool glass, my reflection staring back like a ghost. Two days ago I'd never have imagined standing in Damien Black’s penthouse, while my life, and the lives of everyone I loved hung in the balance of whatever task he gave me. I didn't know how I'd ever sleep again.

A single black petal, fresh as if just fallen, its edges rimmed with something viscous that smelled of copper and turned my stomach. Mrs. Higgins appeared in the doorway like a summoned spirit, her nightcap askew. "The roses grow restless," she observed calmly. "They miss the child's laughter." Damien's footsteps pounded down the hall. When he burst in, gun drawn and eyes wild, the petal was gone. Only a faint, metallic scent remained. Lila's fingernails drew blood from my arm. "They're coming," she whispered. And in the flickering candlelight, I swore I saw the ivy-patterned wallpaper ripple like something moving beneath skin.

I peered at his slit throat, and the blood that had dried along his collar. "What the hell," I muttered, leaning closer to inspect the branding on his forehead. Whoever killed him must have done it. A gasp sounded behind me and I spun around. Dahlia stood at the end of the hallway, a hand over her mouth and her eyes shimmering with fear. "Shit!" I cursed, rushing towards her and blocking her view with my body. "I told you to stay back." "I-I heard the noise," she whispered, her voice was trembling.

Damien POV I watched Lilith disappear into the rain from my window, her silhouette growing smaller until the darkness swallowed her completely, and only then did I let myself collapse into the chair by my desk with my head in my hands. The scent of her perfume still clung to my clothes, my skin, the small room upstairs where we'd crossed every line I'd sworn never to cross again.

Cynthia stopped her oldest kids quickly. She was having a terrible feeling of absolute despair, and it radiated all over the property, all around them. Cynthia looked around and thought she spotted a young woman in the distance, her clothes covered in dirt. The problem with the woman was not that she was there, but the kind of clothes she was wearing. She appeared to be in her early twenties, but she wore a long dress, and a thin veil covered her face. Cynthia turned to ask her husband but when she turned back, the woman was gone.

The king was focused to Chief Black at once. "We found this in hidden in the belongings of the crown princess, Your Majesty." Chief Black lifted his hand for everyone to see. I gasped and my throat ran dry when I saw what he was holding. It is a black little bottle with black lid. "And we found out that it indeed contains the deadly extract of the poisonous flower Lily of Morte." I felt like my whole world crumbled into ashes. I couldn't move. I couldn't speak. It felt like doom was suddenly in front, standing right before me.

She approached us, wearing white clothes, hair opened, and one eye was bleeding. The familiar black cat was behind her. "AGHHH! G HMMMM!" She screamed in a demonic sound. Low pitched and cracking every time she yelled. I got chills down my spine when she was in front of me. So, she was Lisa Dorling. When she gasped, I could feel my breath halted. She glared at us and left from there. "Appreciate that you were in this jail. Otherwise, you were dead." I was starting to get suspicious. What was all this happening? Anxious, unsettled, I was losing hope.

"What is it doctor?" "Dahlia is having serious deficiency in iron. I don't know if you noticed the symptoms but she's facing difficulties in breathing. She's anemic. Her red blood cells are so low. I'll place her on an iron supplement and dietary plan. But i advise a blood transfusion as soon as possible. I also noticed she's an AB negative. That's a rare blood type, ma'am." I stopped hearing his voice, my eyes filled with tears. How is this possible? Dahlia eats healthy food. How can she be anemic to the point where she needs a blood transfusion? An Ian is the one with the AB negative blood type. I'm doomed.
