Honestly, between getting caught by him again or being dragged away by these rogue wolves, I’d take the latter. Suddenly, Ryder reached out his hand toward me. "We haven’t introduced ourselves yet. I’m Ryder Black!" I didn’t shake his hand, just stared at it coldly. "Ryder? What are you, a motorcyclist or something? Oh wait, I know—you’re a bandit!"

A painting hangs beside his desk. I don’t know why it draws me in, but I find myself walking closer. Thick strokes of midnight blue and charcoal gray layer the canvas. In the center — barely visible unless you truly look — a thin streak of gold cuts through the darkness. Not bright. Not loud. Just there. A quiet fracture of light. It isn’t something you glance at. It’s something you feel. My fingers almost lift to touch the textured paint. Why would a blind man choose something so visual?

Saphira did trip going up the stairs but she managed to catch herself. "Our first single lady is Saphira Silverstar. She just came of age last month. Most of you know she’s also completely blind. But she’s still sweet as can be," Alpha Alexander said. Saphira gently waved since she was nervous and hated this before Alpha Alexander started to go down the list of the other girls that were there. Amy Brown, Susie Jackson, Lilly Emerson, Amanda Smith, and Flora Erickson were all from Saphira’s pack. Saphira could hear some other names being called up from the other packs. She soon heard the doors to the ballroom opening with a loud bang. It made everyone jump and fall silent.

"Please don't leave me, Cassandra. Fight. Please fight. Open your eyes," he screams demandingly. I didn't even notice that my eyes were closed. And this time, when I try to open them, they have been glued shut. My brain is too tired to send the signal for them to open up and give those pretty blue eyes some clarity... some kind of relief.

She followed closely behind him and the two disappeared into the forest. "Did you notice?" Weaver asked and Alex nodded. "Her brother is blind. That's probably why she thought it best to talk it out." Alex said and Weaver nodded. "Don't tell the others about the male being blind. It'll provoke some of the others to try and run him off." Alex said and Weaver nodded in understanding. "I'll take a group to start setting up markers upon our new territory." Wever said and Alex nodded wondering how someone who couldn't see had survived this long. He had help from his sister but he didn't seem to rely on her. . . .

The hooves of our horses awaken some of the people of my pack, causing them to peek out their windows and doors to see what the commotion is about. Before long, we reach the courtyard of the palace and begin to dismount. After a quick debriefing, I release the men to go home to get some rest. Turning, I focus on the woman at my side and find myself floored. Her hood has fallen back to reveal raven hair, the light of dawn causes rainbows to shimmer in the long strands. Her beauty takes my breath away, but that isn’t what truly floors me. Her eyes, her eyes are a dull shadow violet. She’s blind.

But I refused to back down, even as my body throbbed with pain and my vision blurred from the blood in my eyes. The bandit leader's eyes blazed with fury as he glared at me. His voice dripped with disdain as he spoke, "Do you think we don't know you, huh? Of course, we know you're the Alpha of that headless pack, and is it your toothless warriors, who can't even defend themselves, that'll come here to attack us, eh? Hahahahaha," he sneered sarcastically, his lips curling into a wicked grin.

Darkness. Complete darkness, even though the sounds came from everywhere. Even though the sounds were loud and clear, no images were constructed in Celeste's mind. The rain began to pour outside the hospital, adding more sound to Celeste's surroundings. There were many noises around her. Yet, her eyes still could only see the darkness. Maybe this was it. The ending of the Blind Bandit. She would just be grounded in her home, using the walking stick to get her around, and depended on someone to proceed with her daily life.
