The smoke from the light beam cleared, and for a heartbeat, I thought it was over But then, a low, guttural growl rose from the shadows of the darkened cave. Azrael crawled out of the crater my light had made. His skin was charred and peeling, and one of his massive wings hung limp and broken at his side, but his eyes were glowing with a terrifying, murderous purple flame. He wasn't dead. If anything, the pain had made him faster and more dangerous.

A howl of wind gushes through the drapes of the night forming a new skin of cold around me and I shudder - not at the cold, but at the pair of dark eyes that stare at me through the fire reflecting them. Azrael seems all innocent, timid, and soft from the way he carries himself, or whimpers around me. Yet there is something in his eyes that speaks the devil in him. Like the tales of hatred or revenge that peek through the corner of his lashes, oozing an aura of danger.

It would be a miracle if he could survive the night. Azrael knelt on the floor and put his hands almost tenderly around the head of the dying person and turned his head to the side so that the neck was open in front of him. He greedily bit into the tender flesh in front of him and drew the deliciously tingling blood into himself. The young man gave a slight moan, but remained unconscious. A few moments later he exhaled for the last time and died.
