Danielle’s POV The darkness wasn’t just around me — it was inside me, suffocating every last flicker of light or hope I might once have carried. I stood motionless in that cursed room, a hollow shell swallowed by shadows darker than any night. The very walls seemed to bleed the echoes of my screams — those raw, desperate howls of agony I had released night after night, drowning in my own torment.

I sigh. He gives me a wide smile, one that makes my heart beat faster. "Whoever said darkness is evil did not have the depth of mind to cross the line and go beyond his own limitations. Darkness is much more than a behavioral tendency, it is a world trapped inside a universe itself; where humanity and any other race chooses to hide its most decadent thoughts, needs, and desires... Darkness is only a different way of experiencing things, it is a new veil that can be used to wake up other senses... It is in you, in me, in all of us..."

His presence seemed to suck the air from the room, devouring the light and turning it into something else—something dark. For just a second, it reminded me of the Game Master. They both held that darkness within them, but they were two sides of a coin. The Game Master’s darkness reminded me of a dark sky filled with stars, the beautiful darkness that consumed the day. This—thing, its darkness reminded me of a chasm. An endless chasm with nothing but death and agony. ‘We’re not going to fucking die.’ Rayna snarled, ‘Not if I have anything to do with it.’

Chapter 28 Only silence reigns after that. A silence so deafening that it seems to last for an eternity. “For someone who´s lived in darkness for a thousand years, having lived with a darkness inside herself for a thousand more years before that, I know a considerable amount about it.” “If you´re aware of the darkness within me, then you understand that it cannot fester inside my heart. I’m sure right now, with this conversation, he would prefer something much stronger.

"She wasn’t wrong, Raven... There is something dark inside of me... There are times I just want to destroy everything, an anger that I want to unleash upon everything and everyone." His words were quiet and icy, sending worry coursing through me. "There is a darkness inside of me, Raven, and I can’t deny that, because I feel like I'm always battling to reign it in." He said, his voice so hushed and icy that it sent a chill through me, yet it wasn’t his sentence that made my blood run cold... It was the dark navy of his eyes that now bore into mine…
