“The bookstore?” “Yeah,” I said quickly, feeling the need to justify myself for some reason. “There’s this place downtown, Cooper’s Books, that I’ve been meaning to check out. They have a great selection of used books, and I heard they just got a new shipment in, and—” I stopped myself, realizing I was rambling. “But it’s okay if you don’t want to. It’s probably boring for you.” Nicholas grinned. “Are you kidding? I love that place.”

A sign above the door read: ‘The Prism Society – A Book Community for All Identities.’ I blinked. “Kael…what is this place?” He looked at me then, and for a second his mouth curved into something softer than a smile. “You’ll see.” “Don't forget the purpose of our visit,” I said, my voice firm as I got out of the car. He didn't say anything, he just led me into the building. Inside, warmth wrapped around me immediately. Not just from the heating or the faint scent of coffee, but from the atmosphere.

Maybe our connection wasn’t meant to be, so no matter how we were brought together we still didn’t end up together. A few moments later, I’d found the books I wanted to buy. I placed them in my arms, then walked over to Kevin, who was sitting on the reading sofa. This bookstore has a tiny reading room with only two reading sofas separated by a small round table.
