The city sky had grown dark to a mellow gray, the kind that swathed everything in gentleness—buildings, trees, people. Rain still lingered in the air, shrouding the windows of **Chapter & Soul** in a soft mist. Inside, the world progressed more slowly, more softly. It was perfumed with old books, chamomile tea, and something sweet that Lena had baked and not labeled.

_Alina's POV_ I ventured deeper into the maze. The path twisted and turned, but I felt more confident now, more in tune with the energy guiding me. Each step brought new challenges, but I was ready for them. As I rounded a corner, I came across the first puzzle. It was a large stone door, covered in intricate symbols and carvings. The door had no handle or obvious way to open it, but I could sense that this was no ordinary door. It required more than just physical strength to pass through.

A thick book greeted me. Wait! This is the book Luna was reading before. I read the book's title. 'The Mystery of the Madag Forest' Madag Forest? Isn't this the forest that everyone fears? I opened the book and started reading it. It took me an hour to read until I finished it. According to the book, Madag Forest is the home of a wide variety of creatures that eat magic users and humans. And no one has ever come out of the forest alive once you enter.

Hidden within the maze were objects they had to retrieve, but the seniors warned that the maze was alive. “Alive?” Mia asked, incredulous. Lyra smirked. “Oh, you’ll see.” The groups entered the maze one by one, the towering hedges blocking out the sunlight. Anna’s group stuck together, their senses on high alert. “We need to stay close,” Ryan said. “This place feels... wrong.” As they moved deeper into the maze, the air grew colder. The hedges seemed to shift, creating new paths and closing off old ones. “This is insane,” Mia muttered. “How are we supposed to find anything in here?”

And I didn’t think the Beta had given her anything less. I turn, hugging the book closer to my side. There was no way I could get to the library now. SARA POV Cold air is blowing against my legs, and I don't like it. Where is my blanket? Where is Floki? He always sleeps in between my legs. I shift a little to get comfortable, and instead of my couch, I feel rocks push into my skin. As my consciousness comes to me slowly, tidbits of Jannah and different dresses flash in my mind. Suddenly I remember the green-eyed redhead standing outside the bathroom door, and I freeze. My eyes fly open, but I can't see anything because I am facing a wall. I try to keep my breathing light and my body still as I completely panic.

I would have been caught. Where was I even going? No map. No plan. No way out. My phone. Last used at the motel. Was not an option. This was a maze. The maze twisted, walls of stone pressing in, every turn the same. My lungs burned, my legs screaming. Was this still part of Adam's escape plan? Or had he thrown me into a graveyard of walls and left me to rot? I skidded around a corner and froze. The stones here… they pulsed faintly. Sigils carved deep, glowing faint red, like veins pumping blood. The air tasted of iron. What is this oh goddess?!

Elion asked. Cale nodded. "It's a hedge maze, Cale. Hedges don't move." Cale rolled his eyes. He grabbed the pen from the nightstand. He drew a box on the paper. He drew wheels under it. "Sliding walls," Elion realized. "Hidden panels. Like in The Shining or something." Cale tapped the drawing. Yes. "And it crushes me?" Cale hesitated. He looked at Elion. He squeezed his hand. Once.

“What is it?” She looked at him. “A maze.” Kai groaned loudly. “Of course it is.” The wall suddenly split open. A dark corridor stretched ahead. Covered in rust. Dripping water. Low whispers echoed from inside. Tess grabbed Lena. “I don’t want to go.” Lena looked at her. “We don’t have a choice.” The white screen flashed above them. COMPLETE THE MAZE OR REMAIN BURIED Noah looked offended. “That feels unnecessarily aggressive.”
