Then I remembered where I was - The tournament. It was the Maze of Runes. "Move!" Cael shouted. The rest of the team moved forward immediately. We started running. I followed them deeper into the maze while Jessie ran beside me. Her breathing was uneven from the sprint, but her eyes were shining with excitement. "That was insane," she said. I shook my head "I wasn't even sure it would work." "But it did." I glanced back briefly. The first chamber was already sealing itself behind us. The massive stone door slowly closed with a loud sound that echoed throughout the maze. I noticed as silver symbols rearranged themselves across the surface then they vanished completely.

“To fulfill the word that I gave you. This is the secret passage but in reality, it is a maze. Some people say that it is a path that leads to death. Only the king and the army head know the way to get out of the maze successfully. My father, the previous king, had embedded the right path of this maze in my mind since childhood. This maze is so complicated and dangerous that no one can leave it alive if they don’t know the right way out of it. There are almost ten flags in this maze after equal distances which indicates how much path is left. If you continue to find the flags then this means that you are going the right way. The tenth flag is at a dead end. When you see above you find a door

I whisper, though my voice sounds small, swallowed by the walls. Kael steps beside me, torch in hand. The light glints off the slick surfaces. “The Maze wants fear,” he says quietly. “Don’t feed it.” I nod, though my stomach twists. The first corner opens into a chamber that looks like the inside of a heart. The walls expand and contract, pumping thick fluid through channels in the floor. A door waits at the far end, if you can call a slit of twitching muscle a door. Maeven kneels beside the wall, pressing her palm against it. “It’s alive,” she murmurs. “It’s… hungry.”

The maze was a massive labyrinth of towering, twelve-foot-tall evergreen hedges, designed with false turns and hidden silver tokens scattered throughout its winding paths. "Candidates, enter!" the steward commanded. We broke into a run, dispersing into the looming green corridors. I immediately veered toward the eastern wall of the maze, entirely focused on finding the stone archway that led toward the old aqueducts. I wasn't even looking for the silver tokens. I was tracing the outer masonry, running my hand along the cool stone, taking mental notes of guard positions and blind spots. The cold Willa with clean nails and a god’s‑eye view. My fingers twitched at my sides. Without meaning to, I took half a step forward. Toward both. The walls pulsed faintly as I moved, a soft, almost imperceptible thrum under my boots—as if the maze itself were drawing breath in anticipation.

Following the line, I move to see an outline of a door. Now it all made sense. The way they could all move so easily within the maze. The maze was clearly not meant to be won. Ever. It's only purpose was to be a never ending death trap. Taking a deep breath, I move to press on the door. Watching as it opened, I move to step through it. Whoa, I’m actually on the other side. Hearing the horn again, the panels move once more. Figuring out that the edge of the maze never shifted, I move to concentrate only on them.

He mindlinked him, and he nodded, sniffing. "What the fuck is going on here?" A familiar voice asked behind them, making Hashmuk let go of Rasmore. The person standing behind them was the person he was crying for, thinking he had left him. It was Kelvin, with a pile of magic books in his hands. He and his friends smelled like they were coming from the sewer.

Ace was a little confused as to why this woman was sitting in the empty chair in front of him. Ace glanced up, his curiosity piqued by the unexpected intrusion. His gaze narrowed as he observed the woman, his expression guarded as he reached for the folder. Who is this woman? How did she receive this? Flipping it open, his eyes widened in recognition as he scanned the contents within—George's name emblazoned across the top in bold letters. As he dove deeper into the dossier, his lips curled into a sinister smile, a predatory gleam flickering in his eyes. The woman watched him closely, her own expression inscrutable as she awaited his reaction.

A word of fear. “The book.” Mara looked at him. “What book?” The boy did not answer immediately. His eyes were on the gate. Then he said quietly: “The book where your history ends.” And the gate started to open slowly.

Chloe and Grace say you should come find us. I smiled and set my briefcase down at the entrance to the maze. I felt certain it would be safe enough, and the damn thing was heavy with my notes and laptop. Without sounds to go on, I breathed in deeply through my nose and picked up the scent of two pups and a human female.
