The Citadel seemed to resist them less, as though observing, waiting.
Eventually, the hall opened into a chamber vast enough to hold a small city.
At its center rose the Heartforge, a structure of black crystal and molten veins, glowing like a furnace.
Suspended above it was something that made Kael’s breath catch, a crown of fractured light, rotating slowly in midair.
“The Crown,” Lira whispered. “The real one.”
Kael stepped closer, his body trembling. The last time he’d seen it, it had torn the world apart. Now, it pulsed calmly, alive, aware.
