"I'm just a little distracted, that's all—” Before she could finish talking, the front door swung open and in walked Adrian Cross, my husband. He had his tie hung lazily around his neck and his phone pressed against his ear. He didn't seem to notice us at first, his gaze fixed on the stairs and he folded the sleeves of his shirt. “Call the press and tell them about the interview tomorrow,” he said into the phone. “No, don't move until I tell you to." He was already halfway up the stairs when he turned to the kitchen. His gaze met mine briefly–cold, detached. He was about to turn back to the stairs when his eyes landed on Mia.

Watching them console him felt absurd and it was ironic. As I quietly watched his outburst ended, I said in a soft voice, “Let’s get a divorce once I’m discharged.” He stared at me for a long time without saying anything. “This marriage has to end.” Then, he suddenly dropped to his knees. “I did not know you were pregnant. Please forgive me, all right?”

Tyler leaned halfway over the upstairs railing when he saw me enter. “You’re home early! I was planning to pick you up.” “It’s nearly ten,” I replied flatly. He didn’t seem upset about our earlier argument. Instead, he smiled, walking down the stairs to take my hand and guide me into the center of the candlelit heart.
