Daniel stepped closer, voice hard. “And what was that?”
“People,” Rhett said quietly. “Entire teams, volunteers, prisoners, anyone they could vanish without question. Kael believed pain was the key to progress.”
Before anyone could respond, the wall behind them groaned. A section buckled outward, metal tearing like paper.
Daniel raised his weapon, but what stepped through wasn’t the creature.
It was a man tall, wearing a torn black coat, blood smeared down his arm. His eyes glowed faint blue, the same as the cables lining the walls.
