To cover my tracks, I picked up a random poetry book. I took a deep breath before turning to head back to the couch. But when I looked up, I found Vincent watching me. He was smiling. A slow, amused smile, like he’d just uncovered one of my secrets. My fingers clenched at my sides. "Interesting choice, Davina," he murmured, his voice dripping with unbearable amusement. "You don’t have many options here," I said, holding up the thick, heavy book. Must be at least 500 pages. "Maybe I should add a few more to your liking? What do you enjoy?"

The kind of panic that made me want to set fire to the world, only to sift through the ashes for what was lost. Perched on a sofa clearly not meant for someone my size, I fanned through one of the thousands of books the male, Dain, had sent to the suite. Half of these tomes read like textbooks, while the others were packed with fiction and myth. There was no way of sorting between what might be real, and what might’ve been the illusive dreams of some ancient, long deceased scholar. I’d been seconds away from voicing as much when I heard a breathy little whimper, not unlike the one’s my mate had mate last night, sound from across the room.

Silver etchings along the spine. The symbol of the abyss burned into the front.” Ansel blinked. “That narrows it down to… one in a million.” I glanced at her over my shoulder. “Then start looking.”

Kate keeps examining the lone sheet of paper like a bingo player with a bingo card. “Think, Kate. Think,” she tells herself. “Try to recall everything you learned from that book.” The book she’s referring to is Codes, Ciphers, Steganography & Secret Messages, which she got from Booksale, a secondhand bookstore. She closes her eyes and takes a deep breath to calm her nerves. When she opens her eyes again, her line of sight falls on the photo of her and the Bali Girls. Then her eyes jump to the words in the letter:
