“I, I got a call that my wife was in an accident. She was brought here—Aurora Williams.”
The receptionist’s fingers tapped quickly on her keyboard. “Yes, sir. She was brought in not long ago. Room forty-six. The doctor’s with her now.”
Without another word, they dashed down the corridor. Jessica’s heels clattered on the tiles, Richard’s chest rising and falling with shallow breaths. Just as they reached the room, the doctor stepped out, his face pale, his eyes weary.
“Doctor!” Richard’s voice cracked. “How is my wife?”
The doctor hesitated, then exhaled a long, heavy sigh. “I’m so sorry, sir. But your wife… she didn’t make it. She’s gone.”
