The Dragon Prince Rayla Novels & Stories

Both kings turned toward the commotion and saw three full-sized dragons hovering over the city facing down a black-and-red youngling. Mikan’s slayer commlink blared an emergency alert: “Prince Rodic has escaped the training arena. He has not chosen a trainer. Approach with caution. Repeat: youngling loose in the city.” Neither Mikan nor Trace hesitated. They shifted into their dragon forms, the black-and-blue dragon and the feared white dragon filling the streets, sending civilians scattering for cover. “How in the hell did he escape?” Trace growled. “I think the bigger question is how is he flying?” Mikan answered grimly.

The room fell silent so fast my ears rang. “New moon, new blood,” she began. “The Veil thins. The old laws crack. And for the first time in three centuries, a dragon walks among us.” Every head swiveled to me. I lifted my chin. Let them look. “Riley Kane,” Elowen continued, “will train, fight, and—if she survives—help us hold the Veil together. She is under the direct protection of Prince Thorne Blackwood. Any assault on her is an assault on the royal line.”

“People of the kingdom, today we stand at a crossroads. A great threat looms on our borders, but we are not powerless. Together, we will face what comes, and we will prevail.” The crowd erupted in cheers, but the King’s next words silenced them. “Today, I present to you Princess Lyra. She is not only the future queen but a beacon of hope in these uncertain times. She carries with her a gift, a power that will help guide us through this darkness. And she stands here today, ready to lead alongside Prince Kane.” Lyra stepped forward, her heart pounding. She took a moment to scan the crowd, her wolf stirring within her as if offering strength.

he warned, angering me in the process. "I will not be questioned, Barrett. Not only is Raya my mate, she is the child of Selene. She is the rightful heir of this kingdom and she has every right to be here. You can feel it can't you? The power that pushed through the moment her feet touched the ground," I snapped, stepping towards him. Raya grabbed my wrist, preventing me from walking any closer to him. Barrett staid quiet as he looked closely at Raya again. "Hi, Barrett, I am Raya. I'm sorry if my presence here has caused you any stressed, but this is where I am meant to be. I can feel your turmoil, wanting this to be real, but being so paranoid you can't allow yourself to believe it."

Raya turned to face both of them fully. “That is the nature of creatures like him,” she said. Derek raised an eyebrow. “They collapse the moment the lie holding them together disappears.” Jax thought about that for a moment. “Yes,” he admitted. For centuries Drail had survived by convincing people that he was stronger than they were. His greatest weapon was not magic or strength but the illusion that resistance was useless. Once that illusion broke, nothing remained. Raya walked a few steps across the balcony and sat on the wide stone bench near the wall. The night air felt cool against her skin, yet the calm warmth inside her chest kept the cold from reaching deeper.

Not here. I reached instinctively for Caleb’s sleeve. His eyes showed his worry as he asked instantly. “Gina?” But the world tilted, and voices echoed strangely; the music slowed to my ears. Then…I saw her. Princess Lena, standing beneath a crimson moon, had blood-covered her elegant hands. She wasn’t wounded. The blood belonged to someone else, and behind her, the palace was on fire as wolves fought each other. Jealousy twisted her beautiful face into something almost unrecognizable. Her amber eyes glowed with desperate grief. Then… She screamed Caleb’s name in anger. The sound tore through my soul as silver flames erupted around her and bodies fell.

“Why, the old fire breather herself, of course. It’s one of the reasons many people turned out today, despite the fear-mongering of some. They wanted to meet the dragon tamer. And see how the elusive prince will turn this mess around. Having a human for a mate is not unheard of, but usually it happens to ordinary werewolves. Choosing a human to be the mother of the next heir to the line of kings…well…it’s a disaster waiting to happen. And they are all here for the show.” I take a deep calming breath, already tired of the conversation. “I guessed that. But you’re wrong.” I simply say, not even interested in defending my choice of mate anymore. Elijah chooses that moment to whisper something i
