The Duchess Deal Novels & Stories

Sara threw away the remaining cigarettes that were left and quickly returned inside. “I want to announce, that my son, the Duke of Mayfield will be finding a wife this season,” The duchess spoke and smiled as she heard the crowd murmur. Every family wanted their da; acc; according; accordingd, ing to Wil,liam he only needed a pretty wife. The duchess walked behind him. “Have you taken interest in that particular, young lady? She is Sara Adams, you remember your father and yours were good friends. You cannot take interest in her because she is just a child,” She told him.

It sounded like Annalise was a rogue garden hose, not a woman with feelings (feelings I desperately hoped she reciprocated, by the way). “And what exactly is this way out?” I asked, cautiously optimistic. The Duchess leaned in closer, her voice dropping to a mere murmur. “Let’s just say,” she said, a sly smile playing on her lips, “a hefty sum of money can make a lot of problems disappear.” My jaw dropped. Buy Annalise off? Did this woman think I was some kind of… well, a cad? Maybe a little desperate, but definitely not a human ATM. “Your Highness,” I said, my voice tight with indignation, “with all due respect, Annalise is not a… a commodity to be bought and sold.”

He snapped. “I’ve done my end of the bargain and that's marrying the senator's daughter and I expect you to play your part !” Stefan added. Silence… “Cut the crap man, you and I know I don't love her. The wedding arrangement was obviously for the public’s eye,” Stefan said. I felt a pang hit my chest, as I backed away for a bit at his harsh choice of words. And all I could recall was that I was hurt and my head throbbed like someone had shoved a jackhammer in there.

"What do you mean, my lady?" Selene's gaze was sharp. "You did not include the amount he has bestowed upon his mistress." The air in the room seemed to vanish. The officials exchanged shocked glances, stunned that the Duchess dared to speak so openly. For years, they had assumed she lived in blissful ignorance of the Duke's affair. "But… that is the Duke's personal property," Charlie said softly. "There is no such thing as personal property once a marriage is sealed," Selene's voice was like ice.

“Go now, before I change my mind. Oh, don’t forget your fees. I’ll collect those later!” As soon as he said that, the group of men immediately ran away, straight towards the door. They already lost their will to even take part in the auction. Not with a death god hanging over their heads. “They run so fast.” The duke uttered coldly as he watched the men run for their lives. “Lucas, don’t forget to collect their promised payment later. We’re going to need it for this upcoming winter.” “Yes, Lord Duke.” Lucas bowed. “The job’s done. Now I have to greet my gue…” A frown slipped out of the duke’s face. He looked around and felt confused. “Lucas… where’s that lady?” “She’s gone… Duke. She ran awa

The bedroom still held traces of mother's life, but in this world, there was no one left who loved me. The next day, the butler told me the mansion had found a buyer, but I needed to sign the papers. After securing mother's belongings in the house, I went out. When I returned home, the butler ran over in a panic: "Miss, a group of workers just broke in! They said they're redecorating the mansion to throw a makeup graduation party for Josie. They've moved all of the Duchess's personal belongings!"

I said bitterly. "General Rachelle, Duchess Amelia can't be remarried because the deceased Duke Leon, her mate, has made a will that she must not let her remarry," General Cairo said. "Yes, we think that the duchess liked His Majesty but that is her limit. Plus, according to Asher, the Grand Alpha is looking for ladies who have no mate yet so Duchess Amelia is crossed out."

Shia tried to console her grandmother by handing her a glass of water while Khailis tried to offer the baroness her soiled table napkin, which she vehemently refused. “Anyway,” the old duchess continued after drying some of her tears away, “should you find yourself taking fancy of another man while at the ball, you can always decline Langrey’s proposal. He’s still a mere boy, and I don’t think he has any intentions of sending a letter to the Capitol to formalize your engagement, so nothing is set in stone yet.” As if on cue with the duchess’ words, a servant politely came in and delivered an important-looking parchment with a golden seal. The duchess tore it open and read the contents.

Although she was beautiful and extremely sweet, I could tell that deep down the duchess was a very calculating and cunning person. “Let’s make a secret little deal, shall we?” she proposed with clear excitement. “What deal…?” I asked in a small voice. By that time, I wasn’t at all surprised that she would ask me for something in return. That didn’t mean that I felt like I was at a disadvantage at all. For the life of me, I had no idea why someone of such a high rank like her would bother to make a deal with me. At first, it did occur to me that this might be just an entertaining joke to her but that was until I heard her request.

" Deal? Who the hell told him I had a deal with her? Miles was always attentive, so his finding out about the deal didn't shake me up. Still, I acted dumb. " what do you mean by the deal? " I filled my glass up with some red wine and gulp down half of it. " I meant, what's up with you and her being in a "relationship" out of the blue? Aren't we still consoling you over your divorce from Rachel?" Rachel. her name alone got the blood rushing to my head. " You should know that I've my fair share of pain with Rachel and since we are no longer married I thought it was time for me to move on since I believe she is doing the same too."
