He had already gotten used to their presence without realizing it. With heavy footsteps, James trudged up the stairs. He paused outside Naomi's room, his hand trembling as he turned the knob. This was the first time he'd entered her room. As soon as he stepped in, a faint fragrance greeted him. It was her familiar scent, and it soothed his restless heart. The room was neat and completely empty, as if no one had ever lived there before. James sat down on the bed in defeat, his head hanging low. He thought back to the past, and he saw Naomi working diligently in the office six years ago in his mind's eye.

The hole was narrow at the beginning then it widened gradually to reveal a spacious hallway, one that hadn’t been used in centuries. “What is this place?” Eliana asked her voice echoing in the empty hall. Lucian didn’t answer. Only the tap-tap of their feet could be heard as they rounded a corner and came to a wide opening. It was a large room with rusted bunks without bed lining the whole area and a little space in the middle. “Hostel room?” Eliana asked. Lucian shrugged. He had no idea also. The chair in the middle caught her attention but that wasn’t the only thing there. The figure sitting there looking dejected and forlorn was more interesting than the chair.

Each step made no sound along the worn carpet as I moved through halls that felt both strange and known, places I’d lived inside long ago. Behind the dusty shelves, the hiding spot matched the note’s clue - just past the warped bookcase in the abandoned reading room. That forgotten corner held its secret well until I wandered through at midnight some time back. The timing never felt correct afterward to look inside with care. Last night, it finally arrived.

I nodded, avoided her gaze, and went to the kitchen to get some water to take the medicine. That night, Mom slept beside me. I fell asleep quickly, but I had a nightmare. In my dream, I kept going back to the day I was hypnotized. The hypnotist had held me down and kept telling me to forget what my family looked like. I had tried to force myself awake, but no matter what I did, I could not wake up. In the end, I really did forget Mom, Dad, and Zack. I jolted awake from the dream, drenched in cold sweat. Mom woke up too and instinctively patted my shoulder. "What is it, Rena? Did you have a nightmare?"

His arms tightened around me, and I let my eyes drift shut, lulled by the steady rise and fall of his chest. Morning came too soon Gray light filtered through the blinds. "I'll stay vigilant, Luna Nora. Be quick and careful." I gave her a thankful nod before clutching the torch tightly and stepping further into the Black Door Room. The darkness enveloped me, save for the flickering light cast by the torch. Thick layers of dust coated every surface, and cobwebs clung stubbornly to the forgotten relics, as if time had frozen in this secluded chamber. Using the torch's light to guide my way, I cautiously maneuvered through the room, clearing cobwebs and revealing scattered debris. Among the forgotten remnants, a pile of square wooden pieces in a corner drew my attention.

Way over in the corner is a blank wall that looks just a little out of place since every other wall is covered with bookshelves. I remember that the men had mentioned a flashlight, as well as a book off to one side that they had to remove in order to open the secret panel door. I don’t see a flashlight, so for a moment, my heart sinks a little, thinking that they were just a bunch of stupid bullshitters. It wouldn’t be the first time that complete idiots had ruined my plans. But then I noticed the book about war on a shelf off to the side. It was the exact title the fools had discussed. Taking one last look behind me, and finding no one has entered the room, I hurry over and take the book of

Something waiting. --- Determined not to be paralyzed by fear, I returned to the antique bookstore — to the stories, the secrets, the fragments of forgotten women. The elderly owner greeted me with a knowing smile. “You’re searching for answers,” he said quietly. I nodded. He handed me a leather-bound tome, its cover worn but strong — *Reflections of the Forgotten*. “Read carefully,” he advised. “Sometimes the past speaks through shadows.” --- I spent the night poring over its pages. The book told of women trapped in illusions, caught between worlds — ghosts of themselves, struggling to reclaim their true identities.

The countdown vanished. Only the doorway remained. Only the room. Only the book waiting on the desk. And somewhere deep inside her forgotten memories— Ama suddenly knew that whatever truth had been hidden for centuries was not behind the door. It was inside the book she had once written herself.

"This is the first room, Mira. There are eight rooms for you to go through. I have no idea if you will need to go through all of them. That is not for me to decide. That is solely your choice. Are you ready, my dear?" At Mira's nod the priest opened a door and led her in. She stood quietly in the blindfold induced darkness and took a deep breath and then smelled the air of the room. While the air smelled familiar, it did not do anything that the priest had previously mentioned. She knew the man could see her, but she had no way of knowing who it was until her blindfold was removed. She could hear the person breathing, but that was all and when the minute was up, the elderly priest opened the
