Hazel fanned her face dramatically. “Ugh, they’re too perfect — it’s making me emotional!” Jordan crossed his arms. “Unfair advantage. Their romance is still hot off the press. Ours has been grilled, cooled, and reheated a dozen times.” Richard chuckled. “Doesn’t matter. We’ll remember and cherish this for life.” The host raised his mic with a grin. “And there you have it — our winners of The Game of Hearts! Annabelle and Richard Barton!”

He called it without blinking. Her cards were weak. His were brutal. And just like that, she lost everything. Her stomach sank. She couldn’t breathe. He leaned forward, elbows on the table, and spoke so softly that only she could hear him. “You can’t pay, can you?” Her mouth opened. Closed. She shook her head. He smiled—not kindly. “Then let’s change the game.” She frowned. “What do you mean?” He stood and nodded to the dealer. “Clear the room.”
