Down here, off the mountains, the snow has turned to another day of heavy, freezing rain… and remnants of smoke and steam rise over the village.
I edge closer along one of the hilltops that gives me a view of the village below as the first light of morning casts shadows through the alleys. There’s a black, empty spot where my house once stood. It burned to the ground completely, leaving ruin and embers in its wake.
