Before I could even call out for Lucien, Gabriel, or Jacob, a figure jumped out from the dark. It was an elite assassin. He wore a black leather mask and dark clothes that made absolutely no sound. In his right hand, he held a long, thin dagger. The silver metal of the blade was painted with a thick, green liquid. I knew that smell instantly. It was the poison of the Death Flower. Just one small scratch from that blade would stop a werewolf's heart in seconds. "Die, traitor," the assassin whispered, his voice cold and sharp. He lunged forward, aiming the poisoned blade straight at my chest.

Only then would I find true peace. After all, what could possibly be that hard about it? From what Shawn had revealed last night before passing out, this assassin was a legendary professional who used a high-caliber sniper rifle for his missions. The man could sit from a comfortable, mile-long distance on a rooftop and effortlessly gun Elara down in broad daylight, and no one would ever suspect a thing! I hissed. Let me see how that bitch’s precious tech knowledge and cybersecurity empire would save her from a bullet tearing through her skull.

I slam into one of them and kick the other in the head, then twirl before the one with the knife can stab me in the neck. A gun cocking behind my head makes me stiffen. Nostrils flaring, I raise my hands and get ready to attack, but before I can, the man behind me falls unconscious onto the floor. Turning quickly, I spot one of my fellow Assassins, Phoenix, finishing off the last two men. The hallway looks like a war zone with unconscious bodies lying in various spots on the floor. As soon as the last man is down, we both face each other. “What are you doing here?” We both ask in unison.

He was turned into a weak, limp marionette, dangling from Zayn’s hand. Zayn nonchalantly tossed him to the ground and looked down at him from above. He then asked, “Which club do you belong to?” The lead assassin’s pupils constricted from shock once again upon hearing Zayn’s query. “Who… Who are you?” the assassin stuttered. “Let me guess, you’re from the Order of the Solar Temple?” Zayn asked. The assassins had auras very similar to Shaun Shapiro. The lead assassin’s pupils constricted from even more, apparently confirming that Zayn was right.

“Ah, dear niece, so this is what an average day in the life looks like… waltzing with your kill and staring right into their eyes right before you snuff the light out of it… brilliant!” It was obvious he wanted a reaction out of her, and on a very good day, he would have gotten nothing, but today wasn’t exactly going as planned for the plus-sized assassin. Barbara moved with a speed that would have stunned the girl she used to be. In one fluid motion, she was behind him. She didn't bother shedding the server's jacket; she simply reached beneath it. The cold steel of a ceramic knife was pressed firmly against the pulse point of his neck before he could say another word.

It was just like opening a window into a life she no longer belonged to. “I get it.” Her voice cracked. “This whole thing is insane. And it’s not over yet, is it?” “No,” he said quietly. “It’s not.” She looked up at him, tears brimming in her eyes. “Why me, Nicholas? Why did this happen to me?” He didn't know what to say. He was fascinated by the coincidence of the striking resemblance of Amelia and Allison and the fact she was the one who witnessed the assassination. Something was telling him it was Adrian's handwork though he didn't have any proof.

She gleed. I nodded my head, and my mind went back to the stranger from last week. I didn't know how to ask Delilah if she had seen him too. I mean, I wasn't going to just randomly ask if she had seen a group of god-looking billionaires strutting around town with their custom edition Patek watches and custom made, tailored-to-fit-their muscles, suits that could buy the small cozy cafe we were seated in. I asked subtly. "Have you by any chance noticed new faces uptown?" I sneaked a glance her way, watching as she slurped on her glass of orange juice.

“Security footage was cut. No survivors. The guards, the dogs, the maids, everyone was blown to pieces. Whoever did it got in and out without leaving a trace.” My jaw clenched. “No trace? No cameras, no intel, nothing?” “One thing,” he said, pulling a folded paper from his jacket. I took it. Bloodstained. A single name is written in red. The Revenant. I stared at it, something hot and sour curling in my gut. “Bullshit.” “No,” Alek said. “We confirmed it. The Revenant took the contract. The one assassin everyone was terrified of. The one no one sees coming.”

“Someone explain to me why that name sounds like the apocalypse.” Lena studied her. “You’ve never heard of him?” “No.” “That’s actually impressive,” Lena said. Then she turned back to Arun. “He’s careful with his reputation.” Arun exhaled slowly. “Yes. He is.” Alina’s patience snapped. “Okay, enough mysterious silence. Who the hell is he?” Lena answered. “He’s the best assassin alive.” Alina frowned. “There are plenty of those.” Lena shook her head. “Not like him.” She stepped closer, her boots echoing softly on the concrete.

He looked like a god of war. ​The office door splintered inward with a crash. ​The assassin moved faster than any normal wolf. The killer wore a skin tight black leather suit, a dark hood completely covering his face except for his dead black eyes, and a vibrant green serpent tattoo curled dangerously around his pale neck. He held twin curved daggers in his hands. Thick, glowing green liquid dripped steadily from both sharp blades. ​The assassin lunged forward without making a single sound, and aimed both poisoned blades directly at Zachery's bare chest.
