The game continued for the next hour as the only sounds that could be heard was the swishing of the cards and the click of the chips.
I doubled down on the last round, hoping my mountain of chips was enough. I was winning, at least it seemed like it, but I was not confident in what was in Mr Lennon’s hands or the dealer’s.
Instead, he made a stand signal and looked to the dealer. The deal revealed his hidden card. It was a bust. I visibly sighed in relief.
“So it’s a fifty. You play well.”
“Likewise.”
He stood up and walked behind his table. Opening the drawer, he took out a brown heavy file. Approaching the table, he placed it in front of me. “I hope you put that to good use.”
