Pure, quiet, patient satisfaction. "I was looking for that book I lent you last month," she said, speaking to me but angled toward Damon. "I knocked but I thought you were in the shower so I slipped in quickly to check the nightstand. I should've waited, I know, I'm sorry for going in without permission." She opened her hand. The pendant lay in her palm catching the Sunday light coming through the windows. Jade so deep green it was almost black at the center, diamonds surrounding it, the gold setting worn smooth in the way that only decades of being worn and held and loved can do to metal.

She’s still much shorter than me, even several inches off the floor. “I wanted to apologize for being a bit short with you lately,” I say, “and I wanted to give you one of your birthday gifts a bit early.” I pull the gift out and hand it to her. She hesitantly takes it, still looking at me. “Go on, open it.” I watch as Ruby timidly tears into the wrapping paper to reveal a book that I’ve specially ordered just for her. “The Complete History of the Three Kingdoms and their Mystical Counterparts,” she says, reading the title out loud. Her face lights up as she does so.

The idea sounded amusing, to be honest. Sadly, I didn’t get the chance to test it out, because Kellan sat down at the table just as Jade entered the house. She was carrying a box, and Kellan quickly got up from his chair to help her. Kellan took the box to Azura’s room, while Jade sat down across from Azura, causing the entire mood to change. “I brought them, but I was a little surprised that most of the books that you own are all the ones that Cyran wrote.”

She heard his footsteps. He was leaving her here, with these things. She once again tried to wiggle, but it was no use. She looked in the opposite direction and saw the journals. They had them both now, her mothers and Baptistes. She dreaded what was to come. “Ah, very clever.” She heard one of the evil monks say, as he read both journals simultaneously at an alarming rate. “Vander, what did you find?”Another one asked. “The General’s source was correct. Feeling some sort of relief, Jade continued towards the exhibit. The left-wing was nearly empty, save for an elderly woman standing in front of a collection of swords and a younger man who was wandering about. Jade started to walk around, stopping by now and then to view some of the artifacts on display. She was particularly interested in an elaborate costume that supposedly came from the collection of a princess who lived during the Qin dynasty. “I know someone who’d look good in that,” Jade thought as she pictured the dress on Marie. The mental image made her laugh a little too loud, much to the disapproval of the older lady.

He asked, "Do you recognize this flower, or are you buying it for your daughter to play with? This flower is not easy to care for." Angeline responded honestly, "I only know it's a peony. It's not for the child to play with. It's for a family member. The elders at home love flowers, so I'm picking one as a gift." The elderly man confirmed, "This is a peony called 'Silver Petals', the most beautiful in the country. It wasn't easy for me to raise it." Angeline inquired politely, "Could you consider parting with it?" Yasmine reassured the old man with her chest puffed out, "Mister, this flower must be your treasure. “It doesn't seem like it if she said I kind of look like him. Is he my father?” “No.” She said. “Like I said it was just a fling she had.” Jade decided it was best not to press the matter anymore, she went back to looking through the books on the shelf. She found one she liked, titled “Legends of Hewsen Era.” “Can I have this one?” Jade said flashing the book cover to Darla. Darla looked at the book and shook her head. “You're not going to let the legend go, are you?”
