The lords' maid
Without a second thought, I slipped all three letters deep into the hidden pocket of my dress, smoothing down the folds of my skirt so nothing looked out of place.
I stood back up, adopting a serene, innocent expression as I waited beside the bench.
A few minutes later, the guard came trotting back down the stairs, looking bewildered. "My Lady, I searched the upper gallery, but there was no chest to be moved."
"Ah, my mistake," I said with a wave of my hand, offering him a apologetic smile. "One of the maids must have already taken care of it. Thank you for your assistance."
