The Last Witness
a man's voice pleaded between ragged breaths, "you don't have to do this."
Silence answered him, followed by three slow footsteps. Each one carried the same steady rhythm of expensive leather shoes. Elena caught the faint, metallic click of a ring striking something hard each time the man's hand moved right hand, middle finger. It was an unusual habit.
