I broke the device stepping on it without even thinking for a second and then I took Victor in my arms wrapped in the sheet. I would take him with me far away from there and I would make him tell me everything he remembered, I understood that wolves were extinct and there were none left, but in my arms was the last wolf in the world perhaps. I had to protect that child who had survived. He was weak, skinny, and perhaps in agony from exhaustion, he reminded me of me for some reason. "I'll keep you safe Victor," I said as I led him to a car not too far from the cabin, to go out on the dirt path to the main road.

[Didn't get to say this earlier, but I'm out of forgiveness cards. [Let's get a divorce.] My phone started blowing up right after.

I had known this for a long time. My eyelids felt so heavy. I was ready to go. I was so tired. Selena was crying loudly, but I couldn't comfort her anymore. On April 20th, I closed my eyes for the last time and slipped away.

But despite those measures over the next couple of weeks the virus worked its way remorselessly through the remaining 5% of male survivors. “By 12 noon on the 12th of January 2167,’ said Jessica, as she finished her story, “there were no men left on the planet.” I stared at Jessica my jaw slack not sure if this was a dream. “What are you saying?” I asked dumbly. Jessica took my hand in hers and looked into my eyes. “I’m saying, honey, that you are the last man alive on the planet.” I gazed at the beautiful face for a long moment - I couldn’t see any sign of deception there. She believed what she saying. But there was no doubt in my mind she was completely insane.

Silence crashed across the planet. Because for the first time—. The Observer's certainty fractured. A new level of significance was attributed to humanity and the updated Continuum: Deep connection, Preserved individuality, Decentralized emotional architecture. Not hive mind. Not isolation. The last documented case of this wolf’s birth was in fifteen-fifty-five, fourteen years before the werewolf-human war that almost wiped out our species. Below this, there’s a drawing of the wolf in question, standing on his hind legs, claw-like hands wrapped around a human, his muzzle pulled up in a snarl, teeth bared. They walk on two legs, not four? I look back on the entry. They don’t commit, only say that no one can be sure, since we haven’t seen an Ultima in almost five hundred years, and all we have are accounts from humans who are known to be biased and ‘highly imaginative in their observations.’

Terra said as he glanced back at Tsarayu. "Okay, anyway, can you tell me about why humans are a legend mentioned in your book?" Tsarayu asked again. "Oh, it is mentioned in our holy book and the books of probably most of the tribes in this place, the Legend about a human who protected ours and countless other tribes of this world from the brink of destruction.
