______ Episode 42 – The Mechanic The garage smelled of gasoline, sweat, and rust, a perfume Violet found more intoxicating than anything bottled in Paris. It was her kingdom, a concrete floor stained with decades of oil spills, lit by the harsh fluorescent glow that turned everything into stark contrasts of shadow and light. And in the center of her kingdom, under the hood of a snarling, half-rebuilt ’67 Mustang, was Hudson.

I ordered the driver, my words measured. He bowed in accordance, turning the wheels over, driving me home. Daniel Alexander had toyed with fire, I had been too quiet for long, all that ends today. I got out of the car, while the driver was still jumping off and heading into the house. The maids seeing the fury in my eyes all flying in different directions. I said plainly, stating the faults caused by the race. “Okay, Sir!” The mechanic replied. He signalled his co-worker. The co-worker nodded and ran towards the other route. He returned shortly, sitting behind the wheel of a tow truck. I watched as the mechanic attached the winch to the car’s axle. He gave the driver a thumb up as a signal to start driving. “So, ready to celebrate? 156th win so far.” Jasper said enthusiastically. Hm! I slid my hand to my pocket and got a pack of cigarettes. I took out a stick and discarded the rest in my pocket. I lit it with a lighter.

Ethan glanced at his phone, looking at it as if it didn’t belong to him. Fifty billion dollars. He didn’t know if the number meant anything anymore. It felt too big to be real considering the life he had led until now. A life of humiliation. A life of silence. “This must be some kind of a prank.” He murmured. But even as he said it, he looked down at the scar on his arm. It felt heavy, real and uncomfortable. A car engine suddenly cut through the air. He looked up. A black sedan was parked near the end of the street. His phone vibrated again. Unknown number. But he already knew who it was. He picked up. “Victor”, he inquired.

“That’s what the warriors saw?” “It is….” As the anger grew, his eyebrow raised up. “There weren’t reports of those machines.” Piercy showed me a particular one that made my skin crawl. “This is used to keep the woman open for multiple men. Tell me that didn’t happen to you?”

The thick, viscous silver liquid sealed inside the chamber looked dense and heavy, shimmering like liquid moonlight trapped in glass. "Roll up your sleeve, girl," the old man commanded.
