Locks appeared across the stone—hundreds upon thousands—clamping shut and sealing doors and windows, blocking out all light itself. Camela’s eyes widened in horror. “The locks…they’re trapping us,” she said. Vincent growled fiercely, baring his fangs. “Let them try.” The locks clicked into place, one after another, sealing tighter and echoing like the ticking of a thousand clocks. Camela pressed her hand against her chest, her voice trembling as she spoke. “They’re not just locking me out…they’re locking me in.” The ground shook beneath them as the final door appeared before them. It was made of iron and black wood, covered in an array of locks.

And I was trapped in here with him. My eyes darted to the door. If I was fast enough, I could make it. I bolted. Ran for the door as fast as these stupid heels would let me. I grabbed the handle and pulled. Nothing happened. I pulled harder. Still nothing. "What the hell?" I twisted the handle, yanked with both hands. The door was locked. But how? I hadn't heard any locks clicking. I spun around and saw Ares leaning against the bar, holding up a small black remote. That same infuriating smirk on his face.

“It’s unlocked.” The words dropped like stones into the silence. Miranda’s heart hammered against her ribs. Her hand moved automatically toward the doorknob, but she hesitated inches away from touching it. For the first time in over a decade, Miranda Liu’s fingers trembled visibly. Daniel noticed. But he said nothing. “All done, ma’am?” the locksmith asked quietly, stepping back. Miranda inhaled deeply, her breath shaky. “Daniel open the door” “Yes, ma’am.” Daniel replied.

My wolves cover the corridor doors. The tapestry is heavier than I expect. Old fabric. Decades of dust in the weave. My hands find the edges and I pull it aside and behind it is the door. Wooden. Old. Locked from the outside with a simple iron bolt — the kind of lock that says this door was never meant to keep someone out. It was meant to keep someone in. I look at the bolt. Twenty-six years.

" Cylo immediately turned around and tried to open the door, but it was locked from the inside. Double shit. No wonder the door wasn't locked before, because it turned out that the door had to be locked from the inside. Damn it. He was trapped now. Jeff was very satisfied when he saw Cylo's panicked behavior. “Hey, hey, you locked the door from the inside, so you won't be able to open it again without using the access key.” Cylo immediately turned around and stared intently at Jeff. “Fuck! What the hell do you want from me, you bastard?!”

To ignore it. But that voice was weaker now. Much weaker. I pushed the handle down. The door didn’t open. Locked. I frowned. That didn’t make sense. I never locked this door. Never needed to. I tried again. Nothing. The lock held firm. My grip tightened slightly. And slowly… I looked down at the key in my hand. A cold realization settled in my chest. “No way…” My fingers tightened around it. This wasn’t coincidence. This was planned. Everything was planned.

But it slices through me. The door lock turns.

And if my back is going to hurt because of this man, it better be for something more fun than how straight he stands. “First…” I hold a finger up as I shut his door, locking it. I saw the wary look in his eyes as he heard the click of the lock. Geez, it’s not like I’m going to throw myself at him, even if I want to. I don’t force myself on anyone. “I thought these doors were locked from the outside.” Darren’s brow furrowed. I cocked my head, not sure why that’s even being discussed. Or why his mind went there.

She grabs hold of the door frame to steady herself, leaning forward to peek around the corner into the hallway. Just as Ally looks around the corner, she sees Benson walking into the room that always has the locked door. She can also hear him locking the door behind him. Ally wonders what the hell is in that room, that causes every single person that goes in there to lock the door behind them? The door is obviously not only being locked to keep whatever is inside, inside, but it is also locked to keep whoever is outside, outside.
