The Wanderer raised its hands, palms outstretched, beckoning me closer. Its voice resonated again, low and melodic yet carrying the weight of an overwhelming command. “Fear not, for the flames would not harm you. They’ll purify you.”

To hell, I’ll be freaking toasted! I wanted to keep protesting but no words left my mouth, and the shocking thing was that my fear didn’t resonate outwards, it was like I was locked in my mind, watching myself calm before everyone when I was truly shaken within.
