Maybe this was some twist of fate. Perhaps the gods had shown mercy, placing me here to help me understand my magic, my destiny, and—dare I hope—these growing emotions that threatened to unravel me.

“ Yes,” I said, confused. “Why?” He was quiet for a long moment, his gaze fixed on the glowing crystals beneath our feet. When he finally spoke, his voice was low, thoughtful. “ That’s… impossible,” he murmured. “ Or at least, it should be.” “ What do you mean?” I asked, searching his face. He looked back at me, his jaw tight. “ The place you described—the world of bridges and trucks—it sounds like one of the realms from the old stories. A world without magic.”

And no one takes whats mine. And as I give the magic free reign, the world around me fades to black.

Like it's full of electricity waiting to strike. "Where are we going?" I ask, my voice barely above a whisper. "To a place where your kind have been coming for centuries," Maeve replies. "A place where the veil between worlds is thin. Where magic flows like water." The path winds through trees so old their trunks are wider than cars. Moss hangs from their branches like curtains, and strange flowers glow faintly in the darkness. This isn't just a forest anymore. It's something else. Something that shouldn't exist in the modern world.

" I really concentrate as her fringer moves accross my back. I can hear her shaky breath and know this is taking its toll. She presses harder now, the pressure burning through Braden’s borrowed clothes. “L,” I murmur as she finishes. What would begins with spel ... “Spell.” The word drops from my mouth like a stone. My stomach knots. Even if I could somehow pry this monstrous thing off, it’s spelled. Worse, I don’t know magic—and I sure as hell don’t know anyone who does. I didn't even know witches were real until learning Gaia was but this is clearly a whole other world of magic. I don't even know where to begin.

They tease me with their hushed voices. "Do you think we should tell her?" The tendrils laugh. "Tell me what," I groan. I am growing tired of the constant bickering of the tendrils. "There is an opening," a tendril hisses. "An opening between this realm and the living." My eyes fly open, and I sit up. I pace the cabin floor that mirrors one in the earthly domain. I try to understand what the tendrils mean. Reaching out with my magic, I look for any holes that might lead me back to the world, but after spending decades in the void, my magic is not what it used to be. I lower my magic with a huff, and the slimy tentacles laugh at me.

She was someone I could see myself being friends with, had she not been from another world. “Maybe that doesn’t have to be a hinderance.” She said in between bites of what appeared to be some sort of quiche. “The whole world difference thing, I mean. Your mates are Gods—with the capital ‘g’, so surely they have enough power to jump back and forth, right?” Dain shifted in his seat, eying Rachel curiously. “You’d want to visit their world?” “How could I not? They have desert cities with magic markets, literal fire horses, and pirates! Doesn’t that sound incredible?”

And at least, they are humans! What is this place, then? Or is this . . . Earth? If so, then why am I not a human?! From being a princess in the planet of Audravaria, the world of magic and strength, becoming a lower being with a weak body and short lifespan is quite a disgrace already. Is it not yet enough that I even turned into a horse?!
