Ama couldn’t help but feel a bit amused at the thought of Grayson Blackwood needing her assistance. “And you, of all people, can’t accomplish that on your own?” she asked, raising an eyebrow.
“You’re forgetting your place and who has the upper hand here, Ama. I don’t mind reminding you,” he shot back.
She swallowed, painfully aware that she often spoke without thinking. “You’re probably overwhelmed that a man of my status would need anything from a low-life thief like you, so I’ll forgive your sly comment.” His words dripped with condescension.
