“Maybe we’re lost,” I muttered, doubt creeping into my voice. “We arrived in just two days. I thought it would take weeks to find something this sacred.”
Zevarion remained calm. “The living book is always right.”
I was about to argue, when a man appeared, seemingly out of nowhere. One moment the forest was still, and the next, he stood before us, as if he'd stepped straight from the bark of the trees.
His skin bore the texture of polished wood, veins etched like roots, and his eyes glowed faintly green.
