"And the maze is designed to break whatever is left of your sanity. The corridors span miles. There are traps. There are echoes of your past. And there are no clocks. You could be down here for days. There is a bottle of water and three protein bars in the chest in front of you. You will hunt each other in the dark until one of you stops breathing. Welcome to the Abyss." The PA system clicked off. It left behind a heavy, crushing silence, broken only by the distant, rhythmic dripping of water. I stood alone in the pool of light. I was bleeding, barefoot, and stripped of the intoxicating power I had held in the Conservatory. I was at the bottom of the world, hunted by a lethal operative in a

Lost to Earth: Book Three

Lost to Earth: Book Three

Too happy to oblige, and I swiftly return to the Duke's office, standing in front of the bookshelf, trying to decide what book would show-off my 21st Century education. 18 My eyes fall on Homer's "The Odyssey." Perfect! I snatch the leather-bound book and return to the bedroom. Once inside, Bryce is sitting on a wooden seat with an empty stool beside him. He is sitting close to one of the burning candles on a floor stand. "What book had you chosen?" "'The Odyssey,' my lord," I tell him, trying to keep my voice neutral and bored. I do not want to give away my eagerness to prove my higher education. "Very well. Sit, and you may begin," Bryce states while studying me curiously. I can

Her thirst for vengeance

Her thirst for vengeance

And soon, the clearing that had held three people a moment ago was now a churning mass of Night Devourers spreading out in every direction, filling the space between the trees, their sounds overlapping into something that made my teeth ache. The vision of Ivanna and her children dissolved into the chaos, swallowed by it, gone. And then the first one looked straight at us. And then all of them did. "Run," Thorin said. "I'm already running," I said, because I was. Before he had even taken a step, I had bolted down the opposite road.

Savage Sons MC Books 1-5

Savage Sons MC Books 1-5

That hadn’t been my usual for a very long time. Dammit, I was getting muddled. The past and the present were getting all jumbled up in my head again like they had back when I had first started running. And around the Sons that was a dangerous thing. Fang was already suspicious of me. One more slip up and he would find out the truth. Something I couldn't let happen. I had to be more careful.

The Dragon Rider Book 2 + 3

The Dragon Rider Book 2 + 3

"The Sacred Cave of Noelle and The Great Book." "What does the great book have to do with this?" I was confused. I had seen the great book get destroyed before the castle was taken over. A dagger had been stabbed through the centre of the page. With a shake of my head, I gazed up at Luca. "How do you even know about the great book?"

The Reaver Chronicles: The Keepers (Book 5)

The Reaver Chronicles: The Keepers (Book 5)

Azrael held his hand out and I grabbed it, summoning my box again, and teleporting us from our realm back to the warehouse. We landed in the middle of complete chaos. The battle had migrated out of the small office into the main area of the warehouse. Part of the building was on fire, and the Reavers had the man caged in the corner. They were helpless to keep him fully restrained as he was combating their magic with some sort of his own.

The Reaver Chronicles: Rowen (Book 4)

He ran his hand through my hair while he clicked around with his mouse, scrolling and changing pages. I was sitting sideways on his lap with my legs off to one side. With him playing with my hair I felt so relaxed I started falling asleep. I laid my head back on his shoulder and got comfortable. He was still running his fingers through my hair when I opened my eyes for a brief moment to see that he was no longer looking through that spreadsheet. The last thing I saw was a strange looking box on the main screen and a few different windows open with g****e searches. I made out the words Amulet, Pandora and The Others, when sleep took me.

The Compound (The Compound series book1)

The Compound (The Compound series book1)

Floor to ceiling shelving units were arranged in the room to create a maze of sorts, each shelf stacked high with boxes and bags so that I couldn't see the full room without walking the maze. My nerves climbed higher with every corner I rounded and my hand itched to pull out my knife, I checked my walkie, switching it on in case I needed back up and instantly felt better. I kept my foot falls light, scanning shelves, walk ways and alcoves as I passed, pointing the beam of my flash light into every space as I passed.

The Moon's Descendant

The Moon's Descendant

Zelena. I opened my eyes slowly. The sun was already shining brightly through the window. I reached my arm behind me and felt around the bed. I sat up quickly and looked around the room. Gunner wasn’t there. I took a deep breath and yawned stretching my arms out. Wait, my chest didn’t hurt. I twisted my back from side to side waving my arms in the air, my ribs didn’t hurt at all. I got up from the bed and walked around the room, still no pain. I noticed the bookshelf and decided to take a look. There were so many books, some with older worn covers and others newer looking. I picked up a small red book and read the cover ‘A Lycanthropy Reader; WEREWOLVES IN WESTERN CULTURE’. I flicked through

The story is really good! The writer seemed to be learning how to tell the story from two perspectives. At first the author rewrote whole scenes but listened to readers and adapted it a little better. Still some time jump with perspective changes. Zelena has so many powers it seems a lil contrived.
