The statement took us both by surprise. Her lips parted slightly, and her eyes sparkled. “That means a lot,” she murmured. Suddenly, the space between us seemed to vanish without either of us realizing it. She faced me directly. I mirrored her movement. Our knees touched, our shoulders brushed together. I felt her breath lightly brush my jaw. I was struck by all the tiny details: the faint scar near her eyebrow, the way her eyelashes quivered. This was a mistake. A colossal one.
