My fingers trembled, the rifle slipping from my grip and clattering to the forest floor. The beast snarls, a low sound that vibrates through my teeth. It wants to finish them, to end the threat with a single swipe of its massive claws. I could feel its claws digging into my mind, trying to prick the thin thread of my humanity. I close my eyes, breathing hard, and picture her, her smile, her eyes, the way she whispered, “Don’t be afraid to run.” "Even if you're a monster, it's for good, you'd never hurt anyone"

"Ahhh... I yelled out. Trying to get his hands out of my hair. "Please let go of my hair." I am sorry." I am so scared because the monster inside him just came out. I can't help him if he is way too gone. So, I keep trying to calm him down. Please, I started to rub his shoulders and chest. "Kiss me, please." I took his face and kissed his mouth. "Please," I said between kisses. He just asked a question, I promise you. " I am your Derrick. You don't worry." I am yours," I told him.

My eyes darted across the dim room, suddenly hyper-aware of the stillness no creaking shelves, no distant footsteps, only my shallow, uneven breath echoing off the stone walls. Now, with every generation, a monster is born. I froze. A cold weight settled in my chest, tightening with every beat of my heart. Stephen. My Stephen. The monster… lived in him. A sharp gasp escaped my lips before I could catch it. I pressed a hand against my ribs, trying to hold myself together, but the ache only grew. I didn’t want this truth. I didn’t ask for it. And yet, here it was undeniable and cruel. I turned the page.

I wiped my lips with the back of my hand, disgusted with myself. Stop it, I commanded myself. You are a Hunter. You do not crave blood. You do not eat people. But the monster inside me didn't care about titles or morals. It just wanted to feed, to consume, to devour. I stopped in front of the balcony doors. The heavy blackout curtains were drawn, plunging the room into darkness, but my eyes pierced through the gloom with terrifying clarity. I reached out and gripped the handle. Locked. I applied a little pressure, intending to just jiggle it.

I never thought of marrying her, she would always bring it up but I guess I never truly loved her that way, it hurts me, it does. Sometimes I fear I'm a creature who isn't capable of loving. I look at my hands. How can a monster like me love anyway? if anyone finds out what I did, what I've done, what I'm capable of doing, the real me, they wouldn't look at me the same way.
