Yuvonne wrapped me in a hug. Before she decided to step back toward the cabin, I watched Ron gesture to one of the warriors to go with her. Ever since that monster had taken my daughter, the news had spread about a deadly creature taking children away. Nobody knew what compelled it to come, to appear for the first time. Nobody knew why it took my daughter. Everyone was worried that the next time the monster came back, it would take their children. "Are you okay?" Ron asked me, after his attention shifted back.

"Donovan, did something happen at the hospital? Listen to me, go ask Mr. Monroe for leave. Stay home and rest for a while. I don't expect you to achieve greatness—I just want you to be okay." A tear slid from the corner of my eye. I wanted Mom to be okay, too. Given a second life, I will rewrite our fate—mine and Mom’s. After composing myself, I forced a casual tone and said, "Don't worry, Mom. Mr. Monroe has already approved a month's leave for me."

"Agreed. Though I should note—I have no intention of doing any of those things." "Fourth: No public events without my approval first. I'm not going to be paraded around like a trophy." "Reasonable. “I don’t work with insects.” The creature roared, its voice vibrating through their bones. A section of the ceiling collapsed, sending debris raining down. Akira pulled Kaidën to cover, her breath coming in ragged gasps. “You don’t have a choice!” she screamed at her father. “Either you fight with us, or that thing consumes all of us—even you.” For a heartbeat, silence hung in the air, broken only by the echo of the monster’s grotesque movements. Her father’s jaw tightened. Slowly, his shadows steadied. “Very well,” he said, his voice sharp like a blade drawn from its sheath. “But understand this, daughter—when this is over, our war resumes.”

His voice was gruff. “Like telling our families?” I was kind of looking forward to that part. I wanted to watch the blood drain from my dear father’s face. Maybe he would have a heart attack and solve all my problems. I could only hope. “No.” Monster’s voice was harsh. “Like making it official and putting my property patch on you.”

“You killed both of them. You’re a monster.” Adriano stepped closer, stopping just a few feet away. “Your father destroyed my family first,” he said quietly. “Tonight is justice.” Max shook his head again, furious and trembling. “You don’t know anything! You don’t understand—” Before he could finish, the front door opened. Nora walked in, exhausted from her shift at the hospital. She dropped her keys on the table and called out, “Mom? Dad? I’m home—” Her words stopped abruptly.

Zion scoffed at his father. Aiden Black looked confused at his comment. "My lawyer?" He paused and took out a mobile phone. Without asking anything further he dialed the number of the lawyer which he received immediately, "What did Zion do today? Tell me the truth otherwise be prepared to hand in your resignation." Mr. Black threatened him while looking into Zion's eyes who was now confused. Meanwhile, the lawyer told him everything. He cannot afford to leave this job. Knight's empire is one of the best companies and it provides the best salary package and all the other facilities. Who would want to leave such a job?

"Father, Our knights will guard me so you don't have to worry. It will be a quick trip I promise! I will save Mother whatever it takes!" I was surprised when he hugged me. He begged that I should hire someone who will harvest it for me but I told him I was bored I need to go out for a while. Good thing that he agreed. I woke up early.
