(Elisa’s POV) I loved how my life turned out. One minute, I was lying beside the road with a bullet wound from people I thought were my friends, and here I was living a life of crime and loving it. I looked at my watch, realizing how late I was to get to the restaurant, and said, “I have to go. I need to run the books for my bar and restaurant.” I turned to Lorenzo and asked, “Are you coming?” I asked since he had insisted on tagging along.

Her muffled sob echoed throughout the large cabin. She looked outside the glass window that covered one side of the building. It was dark and the sky wasn’t that clear. More tears rushed down her cheeks as her eyes accidentally fell on the clock. It was 11 PM and she didn’t know how she was going to get home. There were definitely people in the hospital as so many people needed care and duty doctors for emergencies but her shift was over hours ago. She wasn’t going to find a bus home as she lived far from her workplace.

Max and Nora got into another one, while the guards got into the last one. The chauffeurs ignited the cars and they drove. Lily stared out the window and enjoyed the view, the city was beautiful at night. She was amazed by everything they came across that she hadn't seen before, Lily hadn't seen a lot of things before. Axel found her interesting to watch and he decided to stare, he couldn't get tired anyway, he never could. Lily is different, different from every other person he has come across. Her innocence amazes him every time, her way of doing things too included.

To get home to him, to complete the mate bond. To build a life together. I won’t go down without a fight, I’ll continue to honour my vow to him until my dying breath. It was my turn to complete night watch, the early hours of the morning had passed yet again with no sounds apart from local wildlife. Owls hooting, foxes shrieking and rodents rustling in the leaves…nothing out of the ordinary…except for when dawn broke. The pink sky this morning sent a foreboding shiver down my spine…a warning casted across the canvas of the morning sky.

Everything had gone smoothly the way he’d expected. After dinner he went to the bar and poured himself some wine. He was wondering why can’t his men find the shotgun. They said everything was tidied and place on their right places but one is not there. On her second glass , he already feeling sleepy so he went up to his room. He felt heavy now and so went straight to the bed. While he was lying feeling half conscious, he saw a figure coming in from the door. He can’t quite make who it is . He can’t focus and his sight is blurred. There, as he was about to overcome by unconsciousness, saw the figure pointing the shotgun between his eyes. Then all turn to pitch black.

LAYLA STARED AT the red vehicle while her heart was starting to beat erratically. No, she shook her head with a realization, she was just being paranoid. It was obviously a different and bigger car. She still was looking at the car when a woman and a boy—probably mother and child—approached the car. The backseat door opened and the two climbed inside the car. Layla watched the car moved away before she continued walking. She went to the gate, showed her ID and strolled inside. The night broke like glass. Mara’s eyes snapped open at the sound — not the soft tapping she’d grown used to, but something sharper. Wood groaning. A latch giving. Her breath caught in her throat as the door shivered against its hinges. The First Watcher stirred beside her, knife already in his fist before his eyes even opened. His instincts were coiled steel. He froze, listening, the blade gleaming faintly in the moonlight that slipped through the curtains.

Night fell over the Citadel like a heavy curtain. The crack in the sky had not grown larger. But it had not closed either. It remained there, a thin black scar across the stars, reminding everyone that something beyond their world was watching. Guards patrolled the walls twice as often. Witches kept protective spells burning through the night. Wolves roamed the forest surrounding the city, their senses stretched for any sign of danger. Yet despite all the preparation… Seraphine felt uneasy. Deep in her bones, she knew something had already changed.

The banquet ended past midnight. Luke sat in the front passenger seat of his Rolls-Royce, pressing his index finger against his temple. He had long, artist's fingers. The glow of the streetlights cast just the right shadow over his face, making his nose bridge more prominent. He looked like a sculpture straight out of a museum. "It's late now. The curfew would already be in effect by the time you return to your dorm."
