⸻ The night dragged, thick and uneasy. Edward took the first watch, standing near the window with a gun holstered at his side, his eyes scanning the shadows outside. Daniel pretended to sleep on the couch, though Abby caught him shifting, restless. Ivy lay curled under a blanket, her breaths uneven, as if sleep could not quite hold her.

On the fifteenth night, the quiet was finally broken. We were standing on the high battlements of the watchtower, looking out over the moonlit expanse of the Northern territories.
